Eleven years after the passing of B.B. King, his presence remains unmistakable. Captured by Jérôme Brunet on April 16, 2009, at the Fox Theater in Oakland, this close-up portrait distills the intensity of a live performance into a single frame: eyes shut tight, face fully absorbed in the music, while the neck of Lucille cuts diagonally across the image. The stark black background and dramatic lighting isolate the artist at the height of expression. This photograph received the 2010 PDN Ultimate Music Moment Award and the 2012 Graphis Photography Annual Gold Award—recognition of both the photographer’s skill and timing, and the enduring power of the subject. For collectors, this is an opportunity to acquire an award-winning image of one of the most influential musicians in American history. Stephen Vanasco’s striking black-and-white photographs of Los Angeles will be featured at the 2026 Inglewood Photo Festival, taking place May 16–17 in the heart of Inglewood. Fresh from his acclaimed solo exhibition LAndscape at The Space@Icon , Vanasco presents a body of work that transforms the city’s freeways, hillsides, and architectural landmarks into cinematic studies of form, light, and atmosphere. His photographs reveal Los Angeles as both monumental and deeply personal—familiar places seen with uncommon clarity. The Inglewood Photo Festival returns for its second year as a free, public celebration of photography and visual culture. Over two days, photographers, artists, students, and collectors will gather for exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, panel discussions, and community programming across multiple venues. This year’s festival includes keynote presentations, educational sessions, photobook conversations, and student exhibitions, creating a dynamic forum for exploring contemporary photography and the evolving image. Selected works by Stephen Vanasco will be available for acquisition through The Space@Icon and on Artsy. 📍 Inglewood Photo Festival 📅 May 16–17, 2026 📍 226 S. In Ray Dobson’s 'Respite/Don’t Worry, I’ll Wake Up', three workers lie on the carpeted floor of a Japanese ferry, catching sleep wherever they can. Hard hats rest nearby, afternoon light pours through the window, and the surrounding signage—“Authorized Personnel Only,” “Use of Bedding Prohibited”—quietly underscores the tension between regulation and human necessity. The photograph is a document of labor, fatigue, and the small acts of surrender that make endurance possible. Dobson notices what most of us pass by—the unscripted moments that reveal how people inhabit the spaces between work and rest. This image is featured in 'Things I’ve Seen That Others Missed', the joint exhibition by Ray Dobson and Brandon Faith, on view at The Space@Icon Gallery in Los Angeles through the end of June Sized 33.1" H × 50" W available through Artsy https://f.mtr.cool/eafcoucnwl #RayDobson #ThingsIveSeenThatOthersMissed #SpaceAtIcon #TheIconLA #DocumentaryPhotography #ColorPhotography #JapanesePhotography #StreetPhotography #ContemporaryPhotography #PhotographyCollectors #FineArtPhotography #Artsy #ArtCollectors #LosAngelesGallery #WorkersOfJapan

An aerial view of an iconic Los Angeles interchange, rendered in black and white. The frame is anchored by a dense weave of overpasses and merging lanes, each a sinuous ribbon cutting across the grid below. Beyond the interchange, the city stretches outward in a low, continuous field—houses, blocks, and streets dissolving into haze, the distant Palos Verdes Peninsula peeking above the encroaching marine layer. Photographed from the air by Stephen Vanasco and part of his exhibition 'LAndscape', the un-editioned Exhibition Print (25.4” x 38”) is available at a special price point. If you’re in love with this piece like we are, DM to inquire or reserve. #StephenVanasco #FWY #LAndscape #LosAngelesPhotography #BlackAndWhitePhotography #AerialPhotography #UrbanLandscape #FreewayInterchange #ContemporaryPhotography #ArtCollectors #ArtForSale #moabpaper #artsycollectors

They don't build them like this anymore. The morning light peeks around one of the stately pylons of the 1st Street Bridge crossing the Los Angeles River, giving us a glimpse through the arch of the arterial railways heading down to the port. Exhibited as part of Stephen Vanasco's solo show "LAndscape", this un-editioned exhibition print on Moab Entrada Rag Natural Coldpress archival paper is available sized 60" high x 40" wide for a special price. Los Angeles has a long relationship with Blues and Jazz, from the storied hot-spots along Central Avenue to the movie palaces built along Broadway in Downtown. In "Player" Stephen Vanasco captures a figure in profile—hat brim low, trumpet angled forward—set against the softened façade of the Orpheum on Broadway. From Stephen's solo exhibition 'LAndscape' un-editioned Exhibition Print (48” x 32”), printed on Moab Entrada Rag Natural Coldpress paper, is available at a special price point. If you’ve been considering this piece, this is your chance to snap it up! Note to Collectors - the un-editioned Exhibition Prints is available at a special release price. These are the actual prints from the gallery walls, printed on archival Moab Entrada Rag Natural Coldpress paper. If you’ve been considering this work, now is your chance. “Capitol” distills Hollywood into structure and atmosphere. Shot from above, the frame compresses the district into a dense grid of mid-century forms and low-rise sprawl. The cylindrical stack of the Capitol Records building anchors the center—its horizontal bands cutting cleanly through the haze—while the Hollywood Freeway arcs across the lower edge, a hard line dividing residential blocks from the commercial core. The tonal range stays restrained: soft grays, lifted highlights, and a slight atmospheric falloff that flattens distance without losing detail. The film border remains visible—“KODAK 100TMX”—grounding the image as an object, not just a view. It reads as both document and artifact. From 'LAndscape', now in its final week at Space@Icon . Collector note: Un-editioned Exhibition Prints (40” H × 36.3” W) are available at a special release price. These are the actual prints from the gallery walls, printed on archival Moab Entrada Rag Natural Coldpress paper. If you’ve been considering this work, this is the window. A hillside neighborhood emerges through layers of Los Angeles haze—rooftops compressed into shadow while successive ridgelines dissolve into pale gray. The atmosphere flattens distance and amplifies tone: soft gradients above, dense texture below. Shot on film, the image holds onto grain and subtle tonal shifts that digital often smooths away. The visible film border reinforces that physical origin—this is not just a landscape, but a trace of process. ‘Hillside’ is part of Stephen Vanasco’s solo exhibition “LAndscape”, now in its final week at Space@Icon . For collectors: the un-editioned Exhibition Print, sized 40”H x 36.3” is being offered at a special price point! These are the actual prints from the walls—handled, installed, and seen in context. If you’ve been considering this piece, this is the moment. DM to inquire about availability or reserve an Exhibition Print. Large prints were a key element of my current show LAndscape @spaceaticon Any time there is an opportunity to print big I’m going to do so. But it takes a good lab to know how to execute these. Thank you @iconla for handling the printing of my photos for this exhibit. They turned out amazing. All were printed on @moabpaper Entrada Rag Natural Cold Press. Show is up for a few more days so I hope you can stop in and check it out.

On this date in 2009, "B.B. King Live in Oakland" was taken at the Fox Theater in Oakland, California, when the blues legend was 84. In his solo exhibition ICONS, photographer JĂŠrĂ´me Brunet captures the electricity of live performance through intimate, striking portraits of legends like B.B. King, Florence Welch, and Dave Grohl. Each image radiates the sweat, spirit, and passion that define these artists on stage. Awarded the 2010 PDN Ultimate Music Moment winner, this photograph is highly regarded for capturing the intensity and emotion of King's performance in his later years.
