Today marks one month since the start of the R*ssian invasion of Ukraine. Thousands of civilians have been senselessly killed in uninhibited missile strikes by R*ssian aggressors. Tens of millions have lost everything, have been displaced internally and have been forced to leave the country as refugees.
My family is from Chernihiv, a city north of the capital Kyiv. This is the place where my parents were born, where my entire family is from, where I have cherished childhood memories of joy and warmth.
Chernihiv has been under siege since the start of the war and is slowly turning into a humanitarian crisis. The main vehicular and pedestrian bridges that cross the Desna river toward Kyiv and the western part of the country have been destroyed. Medical, food and water is dependent on volunteer delivery. A majority of my family have left the city with only the clothes on their backs, but my dear grandparents are still there and are unable to get out, forced to wait until available humanitarian corridors open up.
My mother has started a GoFundMe page to act as a direct transfer fund for family members, friends and close people that have no direct income due to the current situation. This fund will assist with purchasing clothes, food, hygienic products, travel, and shelter for them. This fund will also be distributed to volunteer organizations on the ground that we are in contact with that are already assisting struggling folks with food, water and medicines directly.
