Join us for an intimate table reading of Revival, a powerful new stage work by Viktor le. Givens. Rooted in a decade of archival excavation and folkloric research, Revival is more than a play — it’s a ritual of “rememories,” as Toni Morrison so powerfully described: the act of remembering what was never truly forgotten. Written with intentions of stirring inquiry and engagement from the audience on topics pertaining to: heirs property, legacy keeping, and succession plans. All subject areas that greatly impact African American preservation practices. Come witness history remembered, reclaimed, and revived.

There is profound power in cultural workers being afforded the time and space to unplug from the familiar and engage with new environments utilizing the same sensibilities --sensations and creative curiosity embedded in their practice -- as a spatial place maker as a wanderer of archival sites as a intermediary for the invisible I look forward to this immersive residency in Mississippi -- allowing me the time and place in space to wander and listen thank you @sippculture for fertilizing critical afro diasporic cultural production. More process reflections soon.

The Cowboy Sunday X Folk Fest was a good ole time, medicine for the soul 🌻 Children playing, barbecue, greens, cornbread, and black eyed peas, wisdom being shared, ancestors being remembered, dancing, laughter, and hugs being shared, a time was had. We are so grateful to have been a part of such a beautifully crafted experience ✨✍🏽 Thank you to all the rich souls who took the time to share their words for our community poem and to ruminate with us on what reparations means in this moment 🔥 We hope you are walking a little lighter, a little more energized, and a little more grounded in your purpose 🫶🏽 The poem is on our Substack too. Check it out ✨✍🏽 Til next time. XOXO

Looking back at last year’s Cowboy Sunday x Folk Fest only reminds us why we build this clearing every year. It is the sight of our children playing, our elders resting, and our community moving in rhythm with the earth. From the horses on the road to the sacred movement under the trees, this is more than an event. It is a homecoming. It is a true reunion and communion. We are ready to do it all again this Sunday. We are holding a space for you in the clearing. Join us as we return to Journey HTX for another day of preservation, community, abundance, and joy. Link in bio to RSVP. See you in the clearing. #CowboySunday #FolkFest2026 #TheClearing #JourneyHTX #FamilyReunion

We gather this Sunday, March 29th, at the Cowboy Sunday Folk Fest to honor the marketplace not as a site of mere commerce, but as a sacred, ancestral technology. Throughout our folk traditions, the market has always been the ultimate clearing—the central nervous system of our survival. It is the original site of information sharing, where the news of the ward is passed over tables of hot food. It is the site of network building, where the agrarian meets the artisan, flesh-to-flesh, soil-to-sole. Here, currency exchange is not just a transaction; it is a profound, communal transfer of energy. When you step onto the open, grounded earth at Journey HTX, you are stepping into a living, breathing ecosystem of preservation and prosperity. The Custodians of the Clearing Our marketplace is anchored by the custodians of our folkways—the modern-day alchemists, rootworkers, and stewards of our local economy. When you exchange currency with Ancient Mother’s Wisdom, Madame Joli, or Juju Strolling Through, you are directly investing in the lineage of the healers. When you sit at The Kitchen Table or gather with the Sisters of the Yam, you are participating in the oldest form of community care and sustenance. When you engage with The People's Health Clinic or catch the rhythmic pulse of Drumz Uhuru and Ijo Ominira, you are fortifying the physical and spiritual immune system of the people. From the aesthetic armor provided by Kiss The Jewel and Ohemaa Essence, to the deep atmospheric shifting of Lupitas Bath Salts and Candles, every booth is a pillar holding up this sovereign space. The Cowboy Sunday Folk Fest is an active investment in our shared future and the continuity of our folk traditions. To keep this vital cultural engine running, we are asking for your direct financial support. Your contribution does more than just sustain the festival grounds—it fuels critical, on-the-ground initiatives that reach far beyond the weekend. By giving today, you are funding essential education outreach, driving fruit tree reforestation efforts in East Texas, creating real avenues for youth economic empowerment, and expanding hands-on, project-based learning programs throughout Texas. This living history requires tangible resources to grow and thrive. Partner with us in this work, make a lasting impact, and give today to support the community, the land, and the next generation. RSVP on the eventbrite and leave a donation and contact information for continued relational development. All gifts are tax deductible and support intercultural action-strategy.  The Cowboy Sunday Folk Fest is set to bring together trail riders, musicians, storytellers, and the community for a day of culture, history, and celebration in Houston. This event honors the rich legacy of Black cowboys and folk traditions that have long shaped Texas and beyond.
