THROWBACK THURSDAY: The 17th Anniversary of a Legendary Visit April 23, 2009 – April 23, 2026: A Full Circle Moment Great FEGO Family, look at the date. 🗓️ Exactly 17 years ago today, on Thursday, April 23, 2009, something magical happened. We were neck-deep in SSCE extension classes, stressed and focused on our final exams, when a legend decided to come home. The late Sound Sultan (Olanrewaju Fasasi) was in Ogbomoso for a concert, but he didn't forget his roots. Accompanied by his brother @kay_spartan he drove through those FEGO gates, not as a superstar, but as a Senior Colleague coming to check on his younger brothers and sisters. We can still feel the energy of that day: The roar of excitement that went through the Boys' Hostel. The way he laughed and joked with us as if he never left those halls. The humble gesture of his donation to our set, showing us what it means to give back. In these photos, you see him embracing us—no barriers, just pure FEGO love. He was a man who conquered the world with music but never lost his 'Pro Unitate' spirit. It is a bittersweet coincidence that we are sharing this on the exact same day, 17 years later. Though he is no longer with us in person, his legacy of humility and excellence is forever in our hearts. Rest on, Senior Lanre. You’ll always be our 'Sound' Sultan. 🕊️🎤 #FEGO09 #SoundSultan #TBT #prounitate #fegoalumni

There’s an African proverb that says: We get to choose our friends, but we don’t get to choose our brothers and sisters. Life has given me a rare privilege — to walk this journey with these incredible people I proudly call my siblings. ❤️ Toyin, our first child, born on the beautiful Jos Plateau. A Master’s degree holder in Administration and a senior staff of the Lagos State Ministry of Lands. Solid. Graceful. Purposeful. Then there’s me — second child, first son. I dey try for myself. 🙏🏾😄 Oyinda (Dr. Alafia), my immediate sister. A PhD holder in Biology and a lecturer at LASU. Brains. Beauty. Balance. Lanre Fasasi — Sound Sultan came next. A legend. A voice. A soul too pure for this world. May his gentle soul continue to rest in perfect peace. 🕊️ Kayode Fasasi, a Medical Doctor, currently saving lives with the NHS in the UK. Service. Sacrifice. Excellence. And the baby of the family, Bukayo (Mama) — an Architect with two Master’s degrees, currently doing great things in Canada. Vision. Structure. Global impact. To say I’m proud is an understatement. Today, I pause to remember and pray for our late parents — Dad and Mum — whose sacrifices gave us the greatest inheritance any child can receive: education.

Hey brother, we miss you every single day. The children are growing so fast, and they are doing well. Life goes on, though little has truly changed since you left. The politicians remain greedy, enriching themselves while looting the common wealth of the people. The youths are still trapped in the same vicious cycle, struggling by any means necessary to rise above the poverty line. We miss you deeply, but we take comfort in knowing you are in a better place.

Sound Sultan: 11/27 An amazing soul, even after you’ve left us to transcend into higher consciousness, your life and time here is a pathway for those of us rising now. You lived well. SOUNDSULTAN lives forever as consciousness, music, culture, and way of life. I was barely 17 when I met him at the shoot of the NAIJA NINJA star-studded movie “Head Gone” at the University of Ibadan in 2013. Three minutes with this man, I was already learning DISCIPLINE! Ahan Ahan! Bros, I just came to greet you, oh! Now, now, you don Dey discipline me, and that’s how my journey started as a Ninja. I started learning more than just making music; character development and composure are a must if you’re around him. Ask Sean Tizzle, Seyi Shay, and Spyro. SS4 ✅ I was behind the scene for this particular video of “Monsura” shot by the king @clarenceshotit who I was also learning from. I was behind the camera for over 50 of his videos back in the days, Capital Hills days. Oga Boss, Chidinma, Tha Suspect, MzKiizz Fefe, and the rest this video means a lot to me, especially having Olamide and Uncle K in it. Fun fact: I was born and raised in Bariga, just like Baddo @Olamide , and as an infant, I met him while growing up in the hood (ladi-lak) BARIGA. Our primary schools were on the same street. Himself and his crew were the first guys I saw record their own songs in the hood – I’m talking about the early 2000s (having your own song on a CD was a big deal). That same period, Uncle K @koffithaguru lived on my street in Bariga too! 🤣 I asked that man a lot of questions every single time I saw him. A large part of me has concluded that SOUNDSULTAN is part of the high consciousness connecting all the dots 🆙 there. This is supernatural! ”Naija Ninja” 3.0 🥷🏽…… The movie just began, Temmy D. 2/27. Directed by: BABA DEE @dare_fasasi Agba director 📽️ KASHIMAWO FILMS 😂 We forever celebrate SOUNDSULTAN 11/27 #immortal.

For all my old-taker followers, it's the 11th and you know how far. For my new numerous followers today as the 11th day of the month, I traditionally remember my late best friend and brother @soundsultan . A jack of all trades and an official master of all. When he called himself Sound Sultan 25 years ago, very few understood that this was prophetically describing the wide range of influence and kingship he was going to have over sound generally. He played instruments. He wrote songs for himself and others. He sang. He did poetry. He composed. He produced. The only artist of his generation to have annual music drama shows at the theater. But on this day, I choose to isolate his prowess as a Lyricist for celebration. From mentally drilling intellectual punch lines to everyday pidgin English flow, Sound Sultan was your favorite rapper's rapper. Very lyrically ill. The truth is, competition for Sound Sultan was very lean. After over two decades of active service in the game, this MC took a bow and honorably dropped his mic on this day in July 2021, leaving an unmatched legacy, blessed with eternity. Hence you read about him today, 4 years later. As the Sultan sleeps, we miss him dearly. Emma Ugolee
