⚡️FLASH FOLK IS THIS FRIDAY⚡️ The first proper pop-up trad folk singing collective is happening this week in SE London. Here’s how it works: You sign up.The song is sent to you in advance. You learn it at home.We come together on Friday for one rehearsal and meet and greetThen perform it together the same night. No choir experience needed. No auditions. No pressure. Flash Folk is about old songs of land, labour and resistance, and making folk feel open, communal, relevant inclusive and fun. Think part gig, part gathering, part experiment in singing together. We really need people in the room to make it work, so if you’ve been curious, this is your sign to come. Tickets are limited! Dont forget - you get to be a part of this epic event @staffordshirest ST Lates event, with the amazing @blackbritishfolk amd @bookofvoices ! HAPPY EARTH DAY! Just taking a minute to appreciate the outdoors…and the few good things about working in an underfunded industry 😅 Ive been contemplating the intersection of climate action, creativity and culture a lot recently - and no one talks about it better than @julies_bicycle Through them I learnt that social justice is not different to climate justice and how music doesn’t just talk about culture or environmentalism, it lives it…Through music whose lyrics discuss land and labour, to building anti capitalist spaces, to platforming traditional songs which engender stories of migration… let’s build more ways to understand and build on sustainable systems for People and Planet, with creativity at the forefront. You know it’s good when they stay 🥹 In classic British form, the bright sunshine spell lulled us into a false sense of security at our SE Solidarity Social last with the @avalonchoir crew last year…moments into the event the rain poured, but just as we stick it out in wellies and weather during festivals, we put up our umbrellas and embraced the rain and the excuse to huddle and get cosy by the fire. Follow us to join more events this summerrr #communitygathering , #diyfest , #leftfieldsounds #solidaritysessions #localscenes

DID YOU KNOW?! 🫨 Sounds Between (SB) started as a DIY, volunteer-led emergency response group, during Covid? Recognising that some members of SE community were not often amongst those in the neighbourhood support networks, a couple of us got together and built a project working with refugee and aslylum seeking communities in South East London, - redistributing vital supplies to Lewisham and beyond. This is the first picture we ever took!! And documents the moment this became a thing….outside my house, in Lewisham. We will be sharing more of these pictures over the next weeks, remembering what solidarity, community and social action means and what can be achieved when people come together with little resources. Nowadays we focus much more on community music and offer music rather than nappies and Nokias but we are always looking to collaborate on festivals or innovative events to support or connect with different local communities and projects. Tag an activist organisation or individual who might share our ethos. 🙏 #southeastlondon #doıtyourself #startupstory #CommunityFirst #realstories

*Ancient Sámi vocal tradition - (yoik) and modern electronic Estonian 🇫🇮 Follow us to discover more music 💃 The duo Hildá Länsman & Tuomas Norvio invite you to join their ongoing exploration between the ancient Sámi vocal tradition of luohti (yoik) and modern electronic soundscapes. Hildá Länsman is a singer, yoiker, and musician from Utsjoki, the northernmost Finnish part of the Sápmi region. She grew up in a family of reindeer herders and yoikers, and her work is dedicated to highlighting and developing the Sámi culture. Tuomas Norvio, a Finnish sound designer, composer, and producer, weaves his intricate electronic soundscapes, brimming with urban urgency and metropolitan melancholy, into the spirit of Sámi identity. Together they create music that lives both in the past and future, between the tundra and the dance floor. Their debut album Dajan was released in 2025, described as an ongoing conversation between tradition and technology, human and machine, earth and electricity. Big up the trad 💛 #soundsbetween #musicdiscovery #undergroundmusic #independentmusic #newmusicfinds

Omg the biggest newssssss 🥺😮‍💨😭😭 After just a few short years (but a lot of work) with my project Sounds Between (SB) I’ve been selected for one of the biggest opportunities - very pleased to announce ive joined the 2026 @keychangeeu Global Talent Leadership Programme! Big up @prsformusic and the @prsfoundation - and notably @joe_frankland ! Out of hundreds of applicants across 25 countries I was selected to be a part of the programme, representing the UK. Each of us work within music, programming, policy and organising, with a shared focus on equity and structural change and all are women or gender diverse people. JOIN FOR THE JOURNEY - support the grassroots, support live music and support us as cultural and community workers building something BIG in London and beyond…It’s only the beginning 🥲🫡 🥹 Keychange’s work has always been about more than representation. It’s about shifting who gets to lead, who gets resourced, and what kind of culture gets built around that. That’s the part that matters to us. Sounds Between started from a frustration with how narrow and transactional a lot of music spaces feel - who they centre, who they exclude, and how little room there is for something more intentional, unique and connected. So being part of this programme feels less like a milestone, and more like a continuation and a recognition of shared goals. Heres to sixth months focussed learning on finding ways to build spaces that are accessible, artist-led, and actually reflective of the people in them. GET INVOLVED? Collaboration over capitalismmm 💛 #womeninmusic #musicindustry #creativecareers #nextgenleaders #londonmusicscene

LEST WE NEVER FORGET 🛐 The venue that inspired so much of who we are - @growhackney . Born and maintained as a DIY and community focussed creative space, grow continues to inspire through its programme, environment, ethos and culture. It’s not easy sustaining a venue - especially one that prioritises people over profit. Big love to the team - thanks for the opportunity to host events with you, (and work with you!) And big love to @tommykhosla - another kind soul gracing London and beyond with their curatorial talent and collaborative approach 💛 @vishnu.__vijayan #soundsbetween #londonmusicscene #grassrootsmusic #alternativenightlife #livemusiclondon
