This is something that is usually very cost prohibitive and leads people to sticking to brands that they’re familiar with. After a period of 14 days, simply keep the strings if you like them and the difference is charged, or if not, send them back! Cool right? Trying strings: Larsen Il Cannone: direct and focused G&C. When I put the G on, the Perpetual D worked well in this combination. Still have the Larsen Soloist A. The d is good, fairly smooth but strong enough to balance, but I felt just a little lacking in warmth.
Trying strings: Jargar Evokes that I’ve had on for the last 10 months are the baseline. I’ll try others later and will entertain requests for an orchestral or other excerpt.

In a chamber music quartet, each member’s unique sound is celebrated and yet, a quartet is only as good as they are as a whole. One overly ambitious player can overshadow the others while a timid player can be lost and never heard. Finding that perfect match can be hard, but worth every second to create that wonderful and rich string quartet sound. The same can be said about your strings. The balance of timbre, tone, and resonance can make your instrument sing but finding that perfect sound can be trial and error. Which is why we have a solution! We have created quartets (four) of single strings by different manufacturers so you can test them out in one trial and find your match!
Here’s how it works:
1. Pick the string you’re unsatisfied with (Maybe you’ve never found an E string you love? Or maybe you like your top three strings but haven’t found a C string that transforms your sound?)
2. Try 4 different strings for a period of 21 days
3. Return all or buy one when the trial ends. Let us know if you found your match!

Last string trials: on my Clifford Roberts (1987), I kept the Rondo on the A, as the Larsen Il Cannone “warm & broad” sounded a bit thin and hollow on this cello, but tried the other 3 Il Cannone strings (D, G, & C). These are super fresh, I didn’t even play a scale on the new strings before recording! You can go back a couple of weeks to hear the previous trial on this cello (go by the color in the picture).

What are they?
Well, Post-Trial Returns are strings that have been through our trial system and are now being sold at a heavy discount. We offer a 40-60% discount on all previously trialed strings and string sets*. The 40% discounted strings have been on another instrument for a maximum of two weeks and are in like-new condition with a majority of their lifespan intact, and any string that has been out more than two weeks will be discounted past 40%.
This is perfect for anyone wanting to find the most affordable option out there! Also great if you’re in need of strings that are already broken in, eliminating those first few days of settling and letting you head straight to the music.
