Got to spend the day with @julesallenphoto earlier this month, I am beyond grateful for this experience. Growing up I never had someone to call a mentor in my career path and Iâm pretty sure I found just that. Thank you for your kind and motivating words Jules Allen đ¤đđž
Iâm so excited to announce my new body of work, âJust Like My OwnâÂ
I am deeply inspired by my childhood. Growing up in my motherâs salon, I remember sitting in the back with my  brother playing the PS3 while observing everyone who walked in whether it was the baby mama, the side chick, a trans woman, or the men posted up on the block every day staring at the women walking by.
I used to create scenarios about these people in my head. I would ask myself questions like, âWho are these people?â and âWhat do they do for a living?â
This body of work pays homage to my mother, the way she Created community a safe space where everyone, as in the queer community, women & also men felt safe, free, and comfortable in their own skin. Also Being able to make someone feel like a star with the touch of her hands is something I will never forget. âOH MIMI this is niceeeâ I canât wait to capture hair as an expression because it is and we wear it âjust like my ownâ
As an artist, I believe having a body of work and a story to tell is essential. Physical media is something I truly cherish, and I want my work to live on through that.
Thank you to everyone who helped my create âinner beingâ it was my first and Iâll always cherish those memories đ¤
Just Like My Own, my very first magazine, will be yours this September, inshallah.đ¤
