It’s always fun seeing segments we film for @gardeningaustralia come together.
This segment about starting my orchard at Sophie’s Patch 2.0 was filmed last July and the orchard is now abundant in growth and unrecognisable.
Check it out on the Gardening Australia website or watch the repeat tomorrow.
Here are some photos of how the orchard looks now. More info on my native groundcovers in another segment yet to come.

It’s been a big week with two delightful Mother’s Day events which included an ephemeral art session with Kate Hubmayer, a garden tour and for the first time ever, a Sophie’s Patch high tea.
Lovely to see families enjoying each other’s company, as well as others honouring their mothers and their memories.
Will share pics of the nature art later but here are some pics of the tour and high tea.
There are no more #gardentours planned till spring.

The growth of my new garden Sophie’s Patch 2.0 has been amazing.
Planting started in the homestead garden in April 2025 …. and it’s come such a long way in the past twelve months.
Here are some photos taken last week by @darrenclementsphotography
For those that have been asking, there are no more garden tours for the moment, however we will offer them again in spring.

On a day when people celebrate our Mothers, we think of those no longer with us, and celebrate the gifts they shared. I literally grew up in a nursery…. a plant nursery…. So plants and gardening are in my blood. While my father, David Thomson, was an amazing plantsman, it was my mother, Coralie, who was the passionate gardener. I am blessed that she shared this with me, as well as her love of Nature, her strength of character, kindness, compassion, generosity…. and great laugh! Happy Mother’s Day to all mums, grand mums, mother figures ….. today and every day!

Great to have the Kangaroo Island Garden Club visit this week. Nice to see old friends and new who travelled a good distance to Sophie’s Patch 2.0.
Despite the cold weather we enjoyed a farmhouse lunch of hot pumpkin soup, home made bread rolls (thanks to Anne) and Sally’s yummy #sophiespatch cakes.
As the weather cools off, we are wrapping up our garden visits and will start again in spring.

What a fun few days it’s been hanging out with the one and only @costasworld while we were filming a balcony makeover for @gardeningaustralia . Lots of practical info and DIY projects …. can’t wait to see the segment air in a few months.
Despite the contrast between an inner city balcony and my 18 acres at Sophie’s Patch 2.0 , we still managed to fit in some DIY wicking beds for herbs and vegies.
Always fun filming with crew Producer @rachel Coffey, Andrew Dorn on camera and Ben Travers on sound.

It’s been a fun filled few days at Sophies’s Patch 2.0, Shingleback Farm, with two garden tours and a visit from Maggie Beer.
We had sunshine, clouds, 5 drops of rain, and to top off a fabulous weekend….. a wonderful rainbow.
Here are a few pics….

It’s been a big day at #SophiesPatch Shingle Back Farm today ….. with a very special visitor.
The one and only @maggie_beer came to see my new property and it was great to show her around …. particularly the productive patches.
Then to serve the queen of the kitchen afternoon tea 😩….. what pressure!? Turns out she loved Sally’s honey roasted quince white chocolate blondie.

Here are some pics of the 2026 SA Autumn Garden Festival… 🌿✨
Just under 3,000 people attended this celebration of plants, gardening and community, now in its 15th year. Put on by amazing volunteers from
the Clare Agricultural and Horticultural Society, the event was an absolute credit to all involved including the wonderful Paulie Calaby (in her colourful floral dress).
If you didn’t get there this year, put Sunday 18th April 2027 in your calendar so you can get there next year.

Great to catch up with Costa the Garden Gnome, Costa Georgiadis Official , at the SA Autumn Garden Festival today.
What a fabulous day of gardening, plants, garden inspiration, yummy food, and so much more.

Great to have the Strathalbyn Garden Club visit Sophie’s Patch 2.0 today.
The weather at Shingleback Farm was perfect and the garden looked good.
We enjoyed morning tea of New Guinea bean chocolate marble cake and honey roasted quince white chocolate blondie under the side pergola.
Thanks to Gavin from Rufus Coachlines for skilfully squeezing his giant coach down our driveway.
We are taking group bookings now for spring 2026 and autumn 2027. Contact us if your group would like to come for a tour via email through sophiespatch.com.au
