Thank you to all the beautiful people who attended our workshop at Mousiqa Bil Madina (Music in the City) this weekend ❤️ We were overwhelmed by support and participants and only managed to get a few photos of your beautiful works. The workshop centred on Lebanese resourcefulness, where making do, repurposing and working with what’s available becomes an everyday practice rather than a choice. Participants worked with pre-embroidered fabric offcuts and scraps to give them a second life. 🥳 We had the best day celebrating Arab culture, music and food! A special thank you to @fed.square and @habibihafla for having us 💕

You can find @dukkana.hardingst and @soofflash at Mousiqa Bil Madina (Music in the City) Presented by @fed.square and @habibihafla this Saturday May 9 from 3PM - 7PM 🪡🧵We will be hosting a workshop on Lebanese resourcefulness: Repurposing materials workshop The workshop centres on Lebanese resourcefulness, where making do, repurposing and working with what’s available becomes an everyday practice rather than a choice. Participants will work with pre-embroidered fabric and leather off-cuts and scraps to give them a second life. Each piece features designs that draw on Lebanese imagery, nostalgia and Arabic script. Rather than focusing on the embroidery process itself, the workshop looks at how these pieces can be reworked and applied. You’ll be guided through turning these embroidered scraps into something functional or personal. This could be a keychain, a bookmark, or something more experimental. Participants are also welcome to bring along a garment or accessory to attach the patches to. No prior experience needed. All materials provided. 🛍️🛒We will also have a stall lots of goodies including, hats, ties, leather bound journals, posters, stickers + more. ❌Please note Dukkana at 99 Harding st will be closed on the day.

Hello and welcome to Soof. 👋 Soof started about five years ago, while I was finishing my Bachelor of Fashion Design and Technology at RMIT. During my degree, I was introduced to a Barudan industrial embroidery machine and I immediately fell in love with it. It felt like drawing, but with stitches. That idea stuck with me. I enrolled in the honours program mostly so I could keep using the machine until census date. It was 2020 and the pandemic happened, campuses shut down, and I lost access. I couldn’t stop thinking about embroidery, so I bought a small domestic Elna machine. It was a start, but it wasn’t enough. Not long after, I upgraded to a semi-industrial Brother Entrepreneur machine—the same one I still use today. Since then, I’ve added a second machine and hopefully another fully industrial machine soon too. The name Soof (صوف) comes from the Arabic word for wool 🐑 and it also doubles as a nickname I was given as a kid —SafSoof. Soof grew out of a desire not to bring more new things into the world. I didn’t want to be part of an industry that constantly pushes out new products for the sake of it. At the time, my thinking was pretty rigid—very all-or-nothing. I was that annoying person who would tell you you shouldn’t be wearing what you’re wearing. That approach has shifted. I don’t believe the responsibility should sit with individuals when so many people can only afford what’s available to them. My focus now is on offering an alternative, not moralising. There are already more garments on this planet than we’ll ever need. So instead of constantly buying new, I’m interested in how we can rework what already exists. Soof invites people to bring in old or unloved garments and give them new life through embroidery. It’s not about never buying new things—it’s about balance. Encouraging people to keep, repair, and reconnect with what they already have.
