What is your Sonsio story?
A past neighbor of mine works for Sonsio and he talked about a cool company within the automotive industry. He became friends with my husband; of course over cool cars they owned. I encouraged him to apply as a Mechanical Technician and he was hired. A few years down the line (and 7 years ago) an opportunity came along for me in settlement.
Who were your mentors or advocates throughout your journey?
My manager Tonya hired me, gave me a chance, and had faith in me that I could succeed on the settlement team. Naomi for all her patience in training me on our various claims. Jamie for being such a kind, nice, positive coworker when I first started training in the office. Robert for any and all IT help and support I need to do my job efficiently and effectively. My husband, who believed in me that I would be able to figure it all out and be a great asset to Sonsio. The positive feedback and encouragement from these employees helped make me successful at what I do.
What is your favorite part of working on the Risk Management team?
Being trusted by coworkers to achieve and do a good job at the tasks at hand. Being part of a great team that’s independent and accountable.
What is something you are proud of?
Keeping my 50+ houseplants alive and for the most part happy. One of the special houseplants I have is a ficus bonsai that my husband and I bought together when we first got married almost 16 years ago.
What would your perfect weekend look like?
Going with my husband for a ride on our motorcycles, then coming home and playing in the garden for a bit. Pizza and beer for dinner along with watching a movie with our two cats would be the perfect weekend. The photo is of my husband and I standing beside my birthday present, a 1936 International Pickup. It was a pile of body parts that we put together and built as yard art for now.

What is your Sonsio story?
A former coworker, Matt Hammond, was working at Sonsio and he said great things about Sonsio and the people that work here. Once the position opened up for Actuarial Analyst, I applied. Since then, my time at Sonsio has been fantastic. At the end of December, I officially became a supervisor with a direct report. That has really given me the opportunity to develop managerial skills and the ability to take a step back and really see the bigger picture.
Who were your mentors or advocates throughout your journey?
My wife and my family have been huge advocates for me throughout my career. I started my first data analyst job in 2021, and I knew I had found what I wanted to do. It took a lot of sacrifices and time spent learning, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. Also, Matt Hammond. It was easy to feel overwhelmed by the immense amount of knowledge I needed to have. But with his knowledge and guidance, I was able to hit the ground running faster than expected!
What is your favorite part of working on the Risk Management team?
I love being able to use data to tell a story and drive business decisions. It almost doesn’t feel like work to me some days. I work on such a great team with different personalities and skill sets. I also enjoy cross-collaborating with virtually every team within Sonsio to help manage our risk. It’s always interesting and a learning experience to see what others do from our perspective, and vice versa.
What is something you are proud of?
I’ve been fortunate to overcome a lot of obstacles in my past and I attribute most of it to intentional learning. I’ve been very fortunate to have the career I love, but being able to have a family of five (dog included!) makes me most proud.
What would your perfect weekend look like?
My perfect weekend would consist of going to the gym, going outside to be active with my two girls, and working on home projects. A round of golf or a pickup game of basketball/softball would be great as well. I’m unfortunately someone that doesn’t allow myself to relax, so I try to stay as busy as I can!
