“David, I’m talking to you again. It’s Wojnarowicz season in New York. Happily, this happens every few years . . . “ I wrote about Woj again, this time for @4columnsmag thank you to @that_essence_rare @antoniosergiobessa , @wojfound , @leslielohmanmuseum , @maxbttl , @morningwritingclub Image: David Wojnarowicz, Arthur Rimbaud in New York (target), 1978-79 silver print. TONIGHT! Hi friends, I’ve started a new program at Gilliam Writers Group. Weekly Writing Rooms is a place to hang out and write once a week with me and my students. Every Monday at 5 pm Eastern, we’ll gather on Zoom, read an inspiring text together, and then set a timer for 30 minutes of quiet, cameras-off writing time. The last 15 or so minutes will be an optional, informal salon, where you’ll have a chance to ask me questions, chat, and learn from your fellow students, who are some of the sharpest writers in the game. In my years as a writing coach and teacher, I’ve found that what helps the most is not witty commentary in Word documents or sage writing koans. It’s creating a routine and spending time at the writing desk. We all know that getting into the chair is often the hardest part—thus this group. You can sign up now via the link in my bio and stories for $20 a month, which is just $5 per session. That’s a lot cheaper than writing coaching, and I think you will see a lot of the same benefits! Our first meeting is TONIGHT! I hope you will join me and add some predictability, fun, and community to your writing practice. Feel free to DM me with any questions. THANKS!

RIP MANNY 2012–2024. Manny passed away yesterday at noon. He was a soulful, sweet, loyal little guy who also happened to be extremely misanthropic. He’s physically and emotionally scarred most of our visitors and could be fed by only the bravest cat sitters. He used to run up the walls when he was little and could get himself up to six feet or higher. He was even in a @letigreworld video because of his ariel prowess and handsome face. He did not believe in 9-5 work, showing his displeasure by attacking my shoes when I put them on to leave in the morning and later attacking the computer mouse in the WFH era. He also hated sports and sneezing—if I sneezed, he would run from another room to attack my ankles. Of course the fact that he hated everyone except me and L made me love him so much more and I was really crazy about him. He trusted us, he wanted to be with us all the time, and I felt the same way. The house—the world—feels empty without him. I am deeply grateful to the at-home vets who gave him the best care and allowed him to leave this planet on his own terms. ❤️🌈

I wrote for @newyorkermag about @primaryinfo ’s new book of David Wojnarowicz love letters, “Dear Jean Pierre.” It’s one of several amazing books that PI have out this season. Thank you to Cynthia Carr, @Wojfound , @ppowgallery , @semiotexte , @amyjscholder , and everyone who has kept David’s work alive. We need it more than ever. And thanks to @namara_smith , @hzea , @johannafateman , and @that_essence_rare . Link in bio!
