Did you know the California Department of Fish and Wildlife has flagged 13 miles of Highway 12 in Glen Ellen as a critical barrier to wildlife movement? When roads and development fragment habitat, wildlife populations decline and vehicle collisions increase. That's why Sonoma Land Trust and our partners are conducting on-the-ground research along Highway 12 to pinpoint the landscapes most critical for wildlife movement. Once complete, our study will deliver science-based recommendations to identify landscape solutions and potential structures—like wildlife crossings or underpasses—that allow animals to move safely and reduce vehicle collisions. As development pressures grow, this research becomes more critical every year. Now through May 31, every dollar you give is doubled. Support wildlife corridor research today and help build a Sonoma County where both wildlife and people can thrive. We’d like to give a huge thank you to our 2025–2026 interns! 🙌 During their time with us, students from @santarosajc and @sonomastateuniversity contributed over 1,200 hours of service—the equivalent of a part-time staff position! They supported outings and events, performed community outreach, assisted with field monitoring, synthesized data and created reports, and more. At our annual internship showcase, each intern had the opportunity to share photos and stories. Public speaking and leading groups were areas many of the interns gained confidence in. A surprise for many of the students was how learning more about birds increased their passion for conservation and the path they are on.

UPDATE (5/14): Sen. Cabaldon voted yes and SB 954 is now on its way to the Senate Floor for a final vote on May 29! — Polluting facilities could soon be approved near homes and schools with fewer safeguards and less public input. But there’s still time to change course if we speak up now. ⚠️ Last year, the California Legislature passed what's being called the "Toxics Pollution Loophole"—an exemption to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) that strips away your Right to Know protections. Under this exemption, industries are no longer required to disclose environmental and health risks before projects are approved. –No environmental review. –No transparency. –No real community say. –No mitigation. This covers 75+ types of heavy industry facilities that use and can release arsenic, PFAS, cyanide, and other toxic chemicals into our air, our water, our rivers, our land. Doctors, scientists, labor leaders, and frontline communities are sounding the alarm. We cannot allow polluting industries to operate outside of CEQA's protections, and SB 954 (Blakespear) would close this loophole. We need to make sure that our State Senator Christopher Cabaldon knows his constituents care, and that we are relying on his leadership to protect the environment and public health. Tell Senator Cabaldon to close the Toxics Pollution Loophole and protect your community at righttoknow-cabaldon.org #CEQA #ToxicsPollution #RightToKnow #SonomaCounty SB954

We honor the many forms of motherhood and we celebrate the strength, resilience, and care necessary to making life possible. Thank you to @benedictajustine1971 , a mother of two humans and countless plants and animals that live around her home and garden, for bringing us closer to what motherhood in nature looks like through her wildlife photorgraphy. We paired her images with this lovely tune from LUMINARY and hope you will pause with us and reflect on the wonders of motherhood.

Join us for a free Language of the Land Webinar: Kuleana—A Story of Native Hawai’i on Wednesday, May 13 starting at 6pm.
