RIP to Ernie Anastos who passed away today at the age of 82. He was a New York TV legend, anchoring the news at WABC (1978-89), WCBS (1989-95, 2001-05) and WNYW (2005-19). While in a van traveling north on 3rd Avenue soon after he began his WNYW stint, my mother and I saw him at a corner nearby the WNYW studios. My mom took this photo with a flip phone.

Called in to WFAN’s Danielle McCartan @coachmccartan on Saturday, September 6, 2025 to mention possibles for the Super Bowl 60 halftime, reflected on legendary Mets manager Davey Johnson, compared quarterback Aaron Rodgers to CT from MTV Challenge, addressed the alleged advanced training by Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels, and asked Danielle to predict over/under for regular season wins in 2025 for each the Giants and the Jets.

Called in to WFAN’s Danielle McCartan on the late night of Friday, August 29, 2025 to discuss Taylor Swift’s engagement to Travis Kelce, Danielle’s friend Olivia kicking a field goal on MTV’s “The Challenge”, and the motivations of Yankees fans when they are booing shortstop Anthony Volpe.

When I mentioned the possible available coaches like Mike Malone and Mike Budenholzer if the New York Knicks fire Tom Thibodeau to Infinity Sports Network’s Danielle McCartan on Sunday, June 1, 2025, I admitted I turned into music superstar Shania Twain.

New York Knicks had a brutal conclusion to their 2024-25 season. There will be many negatives emphasized in the days and weeks to come about this team, and they are all valid points: the players’ high volume of minutes during the regular season, their poor perimeter defense, a lackluster bench, and coach Tom Thibodeau relying on mainly a limited roster in the postseason — all of which Indiana exploited to their advantage in the Eastern Conference Final. Nonetheless, this was THE best New York Knicks team in 25 years. They’ve got a great nucleus that can contend for at least a few more years, led by Jalen Brunson. They showed they can outlast the Boston Celtics. Now, Leon Rose and co. have got to build on this even further, to also beat the likes of Cleveland, Indiana, and the elite Western teams. Thibodeau is certainly not the best coach in the NBA — he can drive us fans nuts with some of his decision-making — but he is among the best and he has gotten so much out of this team. I’ll be surprised if NYK makes a coaching change in the offseason. Continue

“Around the Horn”, one of my all-time favorite sports studio shows, concluded on ESPN today after a 23-year run. Growing up as a sports fan in NYC in my pre-teens and teens, my only go-to venues for sports analysis were WFAN radio, the back pages and columns in the Daily News and NY Post and the sports reports on the local news. But in 2001, “Pardon the Interruption” with then-Washington Post reporters Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon became a must-see for sports discussions (and it still is!). Understandably, the success of “PTI” led ESPN to develop a companion show for it within the 5 PM ET hour. Thus, in 2002, came “Around the Horn”. It was within these past 23 years that “Around the Horn” showcased a PLETHORA of the nation’s respected sports reporters — almost all of which I had previously not been familiar with whilst growing up in NY, but soon became household names (specifically, MY household, of course). I’m flattered that some popular ATH panelists like @pstorre @thefrankisola @bomani_jones even follow me and my sports ratings info on social media! Thank you so much! Sure, “The Sports Reporters” were its long precursor on ESPN Sunday mornings, a terrific program in its own right. But that show was geared for my dad; ATH and PTI were the shows for me — they made me a better informed sports fan. “ATH” was a fun, informative and insightful half-hour each weekday. I also grew up as a game show fan so I thoroughly enjoyed its “competitive banter” format. Earning points by making points, the popular mute button, the enhanced background graphics… I loved it all. But more importantly, Tony Reali, Aaron Solomon and the rest of its staff were the main reasons ATH lasted so long. They put on a high-quality show each and every day. I wish them the very best on their future endeavors. I’m gutted that ATH ended because there are many more sports stories to tell and would have looked forward to these panelists discuss them. However, I’m glad ESPN gave “Around the Horn” its proper due and honored it to its conclusion.
