Contemporary meets classical in this concert of contrasts by @sonasquartet at St Boltoph-without-Bishopsgate 🎻
Clarice Assad’s ‘Cançōes da America’ opens the programme; a dynamic six-movement work that explores the colourful musical tapestry of Latin America. In contrast, Mozart’s darkly mercurial string quartet No. 15 closes the performance with its intense and often melancholic atmosphere.
This lunchtime concert takes place at the historic St Botolph-without-Bishopsgate, originally an Anglo-Saxon church first mentioned in 1212, the foundations of which were discovered when the present church was erected in 1725-28.
Its name comes from the location just outside (without) what was Bishop’s Gate, one of the gates to the City of London, built as a sanctuary for wayfarers and travellers.
