Nice to see construction begin on Jagera House.
The expressed structure has made for a fairly detailed documentation stage. The hope has been to document it in a way that keeps the structural logic clear and hopefully simplifies the process of building it. Being for a builder and his family, I imagine he’ll let us know soon.

Concept for a new house in Suffolk Park
Without a traditional street frontage the house retreats into the landscape, a quiet participant within its bushland setting.
PRW HOUSE
The programmatic arrangement of PRW house pivots around a central open-air courtyard, which functions as both threshold and sanctuary. This void delineates private quarters to the west from communal spaces to the east while drawing natural light deep into the interior volumes. A timber-clad spine guides one through the interior past the light filled courtyard, through a double-height volume where a suspended staircase serves as both vertical circulation and sculptural element, its ascent offering a changing vantage point of the ocean and landscape.

An honest expression with humble materials forms a hardwearing shell, while a timber-lined interior allows for a softer, more intimate atmosphere in the living spaces.

At Bangalow Road House the concrete island bench extends the kitchen space out into the courtyard- blurring boundaries between inside and outside, and transforming the kitchen into a fluid, expansive environment.

PRW House
Set amongst the sand dunes and indigenous coastal grasses of New Zealand’s Coromandel Peninsula, PRW HOUSE is a home that nurtures both connection and solitude, providing a serene refuge from the outside world while remaining deeply connected and informed by its natural surroundings. A collaboration between Son Studio and industrial designer Kane Lochhead of Idea Studio yields a sophisticated intervention that negotiates the complex interplay between built form and natural context, while mediating the spatial requirements for both intimate experiences and expanded social gathering.

This property is deeply shaped by its environment. Nestled within a rainforest-fringed enclave, it lies along a significant overland flow path due to the catchment area of the surrounding hills, is bushfire zoned and features high-value vegetation + significant native trees. Our goal is to let these environmental elements drive the design, allowing nature to continue its course and flourish on the site and surrounding area.
“When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world.”
― John Muir

Bangalow Road House
The bedrooms on the upper level of Bangalow Road house posed the greatest privacy challenges due to their proximity to the street. A layering of screens along this elevation form a threshold, enabling the building to optimise its extended northern aspect whilst allowing for intimate internal spaces.
