I've been working on this little side quest during quiet nighttime moments for the past few months. Painting on wood feels like a lovely old world craft and my hands want to do more of it. I find myself thinking constantly of how to translate my metal designs into painted motifs. Moths? Yes. A hare? Of course.

Join @somewildbee of Restless Creatures to create an animal talisman made from lightweight metal to place in your personal space. Talismans have long been used to adorn one’s home in order to harness protection. To make your talisman, you’ll learn an ancient metalworking technique called Repoussé. This method is used to create three-dimensional, relief designs by hammering, pushing, or embossing a malleable metal sheet from the reverse side. Using this technique, you will make an animal and imbue it with drawings that symbolize the qualities you’d like to call in. At the end of our time, we’ll take a moment to consecrate our talismans with extra intention.
This workshop will be fun, intuitive, relaxed, and is totally beginner friendly. No prior experience is necessary. All materials will be provided.
Workshop will take place at Into the Feral located at 2914 W Belmont Ave, Chicago IL 60618

Treasures from last weekend's gem show. I loathe the cavernous concrete fluorescent lit halls of the convention center and traversing the weird above ground sealed passageways (I once got lost in those hallways during an unfortunate bout of hypoglycemia and was almost destined to wander them as a ghost for all eternity, so now I always make sure leave a trail breadcrumbs back to my car in the form of photos on my camera roll.) It is worth the taxing journey and bleak environment, though, to sift through piles of gemstone beads, antique Afghan silver, agates, crystals, and Tibetan carvings. I ignore the diamond and jewelry dealers in the middle of the hall and wander the edges where the truly interesting goods are. A few pieces of this hoard are for my personal collection (that silver and turquoise rabbit is ✨m i n e✨ and you better believe I gasped when I saw it. The rest is destined to be made into jewelry that I'll have at a few upcoming spring and early summer markets. I regretted leaving a few things behind, so I already have a new list started for the show in May. If you need me, I'll be at my workbench... 🩶

And that's a wrap on the 2025 art fair and market season. Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by for a chat, to inquire about my work, or to purchase a piece. I truly appreciated every interaction. Restless Creatures was pulled from a beautiful little dream into reality a short time ago, and I'm so proud of what it's becoming. Now it's time to run around in the woods and take a long nap. Then I'll be back creating shiny treasures in the new year. 🤍🪶
A new Restless Creature in homage to the pair of snowy owls who flew silently under night skies and landed in Chicago, making our beautiful city their home for now. I'll have a few of these snowies along with other hand tooled, recycled metal decorations at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum on Saturday 11/29 from 10-2 for their second annual Sustainable Maker's Market. Come say hi and shop local and sustainable. 🤍🦉🪶
