New self portraits + new folks around here = good time for a new intro post!
Hi! My name is Megan. I’m a Hudson Valley, NY based photographer who specializes in creative portraiture inspired by fine art, fantasy, and the natural world.
My background is in theatre, dance, and movement. I’m a lifelong art enthusiast, a fantasy fan, and a great watcher of nerdy movies and TV. I spent most of a decade working in front of the camera as an art model. Through a lot of that time I dabbled in taking my own photos, but only became serious about it a few years back after my Mom passed away- she was a passionate hobby photographer, and I inherited her camera. Pursuing photography in the last few years has served both as a natural continuation of my own long standing creative pursuits as well as a way to stay connected with her.
I love photographing all types of people. I believe that everyone is a worthy subject of art. I hope to help affirm that for you, too.
My work is for the romantic at heart, the whimsical, the playful, those who love to play dress up, to immerse themselves in a fantasy, and those who love a bit of drama and theatricality.
Interested in working with me in 2026? You can:
•book me! I offer simple headshot sessions as well as creative and fantasy portrait sessions. DM for rates.
•join me for a collaborative retreat weekend! These are fun small group experiences in the Hudson Valley which I’m currently (and temporarily) hosting at cost as containers to develop my work and build community with other creatives. Next will likely be June and October. In 2027, I will be turning my energies to creating more client-focused experiences, so if you want a shot at a lower-cost group experience, this year is the time! Watch out for my stories for info.
•I have very limited and selective availability for individual collaborations with movement artists/ dancers as well as experienced models with historical or fantasy wardrobe available.
I’m so glad you’re here and I hope we get a chance to connect offline and make some art together! Thanks for following along. 💜
Self portraits with the wind on Inch Beach, Dingle Peninsula, assisted by my dear @klrkez
I feel lucky to have taken in so many different types of landscape during this adventure. Lush mossy forests, misty lakes and rivers, mountainsides covered in blooming yellow gorse, green fields full of grazing lambs, sandy beaches, dramatic coastal cliff views dropping off into impossibly turquoise waters. All sights I won’t soon forget. I can’t wait til I figure out a way to go back.
An assortment of things I saw in Ireland:
1 - 2: The Monastic city at Glendalough.
3: Kerry at the clootie tree near St. Kevin’s Well, Glendalough.
4: Views from the Howth cliff walk.
5: Donkeys at the Hill of Tara. The baby was born on Oscar night and is named Jessie Buckley. @maguireshilloftara
6: A friendly horse on the way to Tara.
7: Kerry at the holy well at the hill of Tara.
8: The lakes of Killarney from a distance.
9: Dunquin Pier on the Dingle Peninsula.
10: Coastal Views on the Dingle Peninsula.
11: A beehive hut and some baby lambs on the Dingle Peninsula.
12 - 15: Gap of Dunloe views. Hawthorn blossoms, a sheep grazing, one of the lakes you pass on the hike, and old stone bridge.
16: The lakes of Killarney from a boat and Old Weir bridge at the meeting of the waters.
17: A heron catching an eel for lunch on Muckross Lake.
18: The venerable ancient yew tree at Muckross abbey and bluebells growing in the ruins outside.
I have to fly “home” tomorrow and that fact really, really hurts. I guess the price of love is grief, though, isn’t it?

My stunning friend Kerry in the Gap of Dunloe today. We were roommates in drama school nearly 20 years ago, but rarely get to see each other since she lives in England and I live in the states. It has been such an incredible joy to spend such quality time with her on this gorgeous 9 day trip. We’ve seen so much beauty together.
The Gap of Dunloe is actually so awe inspiringly beautiful it feels impossible to put into words. Situated between the McGillicuddy’s Reeks and the Purple Mountain, it’s a mountain pass formed by glacial flows that you can hike or take a horse and trap through. We intended to walk the whole 7 miles, but since I kept stopping to take photographs, we ended up quite behind time wise. A lovely man in a horse and trap stopped us about 4.5 miles in, said ‘you’re not going to make the boat back, girls, get in!’ and took us the rest of the way so we could catch our boat tour through the lakes of Killarney to Ross Castle. It was a breathtaking day.
If I were remotely smart about the algorithm, I’d be spacing out sharing the work I’m doing in Ireland, but I’m just so in love I can’t hold back.
These were taken today at Torc Waterfall in Killarney National Park, one of the mossiest, ferniest, most magical and enchanting woodlands I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. These photographs are almost straight out of the camera. Maybe I should have waited and worked on them more, but. Why? Climbing around these wet and mossy rocks in my bare feet put me in an actual state of bliss that even my slowly-creeping lupus flare couldn’t take the shine out of.
I need to give flowers to my travel companion Kerry Rousell for being such an incredibly excellent assistant. Normally when I take self portraits, I set my camera, set an interval timer, and run away from the lens- but since there was such a wet and rocky climb to the spot where I was posing, I had to shout instructions to her to reset my timer for me over a rushing waterfall, and she got it right. I’m so grateful, because these are casually some of my favorite and most me-feeling photos I’ve ever seen of myself. I actually have no idea if others will like them as much as me, but I like them so much I don’t care.
Leaving Ireland will break my heart into a million pieces, but that won’t happen for a few more days yet, so for now I’ll simply allow myself to be deeply in love. Dress is @linennaive

I thought the earth remembered me, she took me back so tenderly, arranging her dark skirts, her pockets full of lichens and seeds. I slept as never before, a stone on the riverbed, nothing between me and the white fire of the stars but my thoughts, and they floated light as moths among the branches of the perfect trees. All night I heard the small kingdoms breathing around me, the insects, and the birds who do their work in the darkness. All night I rose and fell, as if in water, grappling with a luminous doom. By morning I had vanished at least a dozen times into something better.

Beltane blessings from Glendalough. The only problem with traveling to Ireland is that I do not want to leave.

One thing about @archive_of_the_alliecat is that she will reliably show up with the coolest wardrobe. This gold armor is the dream. Also, if I’m not mistaken I believe there’s a Holly Black related cosplay happening in these photos? ⚔️✨
