RGB 13 Gouache, acrylic and oil on canvas over wood panel 10 in x 10 in 2025-26 Today is the last day to check out “Feels Like” at Queen Projects @__queen.projects This two-person exhibition with artist, collaborator and friend, Shaw Osha @shawoshashaw has been a months-long exploration of how weather, light and language shape our creative work, both inside the studio and in our exterior lives. Big thank you to Sally Scopa @sally.scopa for the invitation to create this site-specific exhibition in the beautiful setting of Bellingham.

Artists Julia Rooney and Shaw Osha printed out months of their coast-to-coast correspondence, pasting it it to the wall at eye level in a sort of textual horizon line that wraps around their show. Come look and read; we’ve extended the show through April 26th! @somehightide @shawoshashaw Photos @erikpatakphoto 🙏

Essex Flowers is thrilled to participate in Barely Fair’s sixth edition with an installation featuring ceramic sculptures by Aaron Krach, cyanotype paintings by Julia Rooney, and a site-specific floor and wall painting by Emmy Thelander. For the context of the international miniature art fair, the artists produced work at a 1:12 scale for a booth measuring 20 x 20 x 12 inches. @barely_fair @somehightide @emmerslol @aaron_krach (and thanks to Patrick for so much help!)

On the Spring Equinox, I was thrilled to open a two-person show with Shaw Osha @shawoshashaw at Queen Projects @__queen.projects — the artist-run gallery founded by Sally Scopa @sally.scopa The work is an extended dialogue between me and Shaw, reflecting on light, weather and atmosphere during the dark months of November through February, from our respective coasts (east and west).

RGB 16, RGB 3, and RGB 6 are from a series of paintings completed exclusively in the colors red, green and blue: RGB color. RGB color models are used in electronic, light-emitting devices like phones, televisions and projectors, shaping how we view images in our technological world. Julia Rooney limits her palette to the RGB triad to explore the distinct possibilities of this artificial color space, yet her pieces somehow reverse the digital palette‘s feel, bringing to mind moss, spores, and dappled light in the forest. @somehightide

I’m excited to announce that the catalogue for TILT is now in print! The exhibition consists of a series of large-scale cyanotypes on linen, all produced in Marquand Chapel using sunlight that passed through the space’s windows during the weeks of the Fall Equinox and the Winer Solstice. The catalogue features an essay by scholar Xiao Situ @xiao.space and an interview with journalist Timothy Cahill. Thank you to Jessica Smolinski @jesssmolinski for the excellent documentation of the exhibition, and to Nakaya Lynch @nakaya for designing such a beautiful catalogue. Join us at Yale Divinity School @yaledivinityschool today at 12:15pm for a book launch and reception to celebrate the show, which will remain on view through the end of the academic year. #juliarooney #yaledivinityschool #yaleschoolofart #cyanotype

I recently installed a new body of work at the Yale Divinity School @yaledivinityschool inspired by light passing through Marquand Chapel during two important astronomical events: the Fall Equinox and the Winter Solstice. Thank you to YDS and Tom Krattenmaker for your support producing this site-specific project, and to Greg Shea @gregshea_artificer for the expert help with mounting the work. Installation images and information about an accompanying catalogue coming soon! TILT (04), 2025 Cyanotype on linen with gesso, marble dust and gouache (28” x 28”)
