Meet Brigit, one of our incredible board members 🦋 Chemist. Apple patent holder. Published in Nature. Chief of Staff at OpenStar Technologies (fusion energy). And in her free time? She explores botanical gardens around the world, painting and drawing the natural world. This is what STEAM looks like - someone who sees no separation between science and art, between technical expertise and creative curiosity. Brigit joined our board because she believes in equity in STEAM fields. She’s been leading diversity initiatives for 18 years and mentors through the State Department’s TechWomen program. She understands that the best innovation happens when we remove barriers and support diverse voices. That’s exactly what our grants are about. If you’re working on something that bridges disciplines, we want to support you. Applications close Feb 15 - link in bio 🔗 #STEAMGrants #BoardSpotlight #ScienceAndArt #Interdisciplinary

With the beginning of the holiday season, we’re thinking about all the projects that almost didn’t happen. The student who almost gave up because they couldn’t afford equipment. The educator with an innovative idea but no budget to pilot it. The artist who had a vision but no resources to bring it to life. Sometimes all it takes is $1,000 and someone believing in you. That’s why we created our STEAM grants. To say: your ideas matter. Your work matters. You matter. Applications open through February 15, 2026. Let’s make sure brilliant ideas don’t stay stuck in someone’s mind this year. 🔗 in bio: /grants #Thankful #STEAMGrants #BelieveInYourself

A question I keep getting: “Why STEAM grants? Why now?” Throughout my career as an artist, musician, and creative technologist, I’ve always worked to make STEAM ideas accessible to everyone. At NASA JPL, I watched engineers solve impossible problems. At the Field Museum, I saw scientists make groundbreaking discoveries. In my own creative practice, I’ve built bridges between art and science, making complex concepts tangible and engaging. Every single breakthrough required resources - even small amounts - to buy equipment, attend conferences, access tools, create prototypes. $1,000 might not sound transformative. But, it can be for anyone including: - A student who can finally afford lab equipment - An educator who can pilot a new teaching method - An artist who can create work that sparks conversation - A researcher who can present findings - A musician who can explore the intersection of sound and technology These small investments create ripple effects. As someone who has spent their entire career making STEAM accessible, I know that barriers to entry shouldn’t prevent brilliant ideas from becoming reality. Applications close February 15, 2026. If you’re working on something meaningful, I want to hear about it. Link in bio: /grants #STEAM #Innovation #MakeADifference #ArtMeetsScience #AccessibleEducation
