Views Friday, May 15, 2026 - Saturday, May 16, 2026, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm Views is a dance show of new works by Andrea Muñiz that explore perception across ecological systems and to the charged space between performer and audience. Featuring the premiere of NATURE I AM (dance film + live continuation), a duet investigating interconnection, cycles of destruction and renewal, and the body as a fractal universe. The evening continues with Nude Character Shoe, a provocative solo that confronts objectification, gender performance, and spectatorship. Contains nudity. Intended for mature audiences. You can learn more about Andrea’s work at or on Instagram@_andreamuniz_ Tickets can be found at the link in our bio.

🌈🔥 Queer Partner Dance Vibes! 🔥🌈 Join us for our 1st Queer Contact Improv Night hosted by “Queer Dance Boston!” on Friday, May 8th. ☺️ Come if you’re curious and experience something new in a safe queer space ☺️ “Queer Dance Boston” will now be collaborating with different queer organizers and instructors to bring you partner dancing of different styles in Boston for specific queer nights (so exciting!) These events are warm, inclusive spaces where queer dancers, allies, and all identities can move, connect, and shine. We welcome Andrea Muniz as our queer instructor of the night. Andrea is a professional contemporary dancer. Andrea will be sharing their knowledge and love of Contact Improv. A queer-centered, beginner contact improvisation class and jam. We will explore sharing our center of weight, listening, and dancing in a supportive, consent-based space. This is an invitation to move at your own pace, build confidence, and connect with others through the form of contact improvisation. No prior experience needed. Please wear comfortable, loose, full-coverage clothing that allows for easy movement and sliding. Knee pads are encouraged if you have them. Please join me in learning from Andrea and having some good ole queer fun and playing during the Jam right afterwards. 7pm: class ($15 includes social) 8pm: Contact Improv Jam with music ($10) 📍 SomArts at the Armory 191 Highland Ave, 3rd floor Somerville Venmo: jose-cuadra Come dance, express yourself, and be celebrated exactly as you are. Today, detritus dance Co-Founder Caroline Bradbury shares her testimonial on SomArt Spaces: “From our very first rehearsal together in 2021, we have used the SomArt Spaces due to how accessible and affordable they are for artists in Boston. detritus dance has created two evening-length dance works within SomArt Spaces at The Armory and at The Hive. We could not operate without the subsidized rehearsal rental space and affordable performance fees. Our company in its current state could not exist without the SomArt Spaces, and we would not want it any other way.” Want to share why you love SomArt? Head to our website and leave your testimonial today!

Today, we share with you a testimonial from our community member @aidenk_choreo ! "My name is Aiden Marshall, I am a dance teacher and choreographer and have been privileged to use the free/discounted BIPOC space at the Armory through SomArt to rehearse my work and to teach classes to folks often marginalized in the dance world. I also attend various programs hosted in the space Having access to the SomArt program has made much of what I am most proud of possible at all! I was able to develop my first post-academic choreography using the BIPOC space which I was then able to take into residency in Cambridge. This program has also been crucial to launching TransDans, a series of dance classes for trans/genderqueer adults, which has been steadily growing and creating community within queer artists in Somerville as well as throughout Greater Boston!" Want to tell us why you love SomArt Spaces? Head to our website and leave your testimonial today!

Southern Italian Folk Dance Workshop Saturday, April 11, 2026, 11:30 am - 1:30 pm Southern Italian folk dances, known as tarantellas, trace their roots back to ancient Greece, with connections to Iran, Egypt and Andalusia, as well as to the traditions of the Romani people who traveled from Rajasthan through North Africa, Morocco and Spain to Sicily and Calabria. Artist Carmen Marsico will teach the steps of Pizzica and Tammurriata, the two folk dances most popular in Italy right now. If you travel to the regions of Campania, Puglia, Calabria, Basilicata and Sicily, and happen to attend a local festival or “sagra paesana”, thanks to this class you will be able to dance together with your Italian family and friends. And it is a fun work-out! Please dress comfortably and be ready to dance. Dance shoes or soft sole shoes required on the dance floor. Bring a bottle of water.
