Unlearn Tools, Lecture and Web Archive, Summer 2024 @design.htwd
Long time ago, but still worth sharing: Unlearn Tools, a week-long workshop where design students were encouraged to question their relationship with tools and, based on that, develop new and personal approaches and workflows in design.

Recently, a few people have contacted me about successfully printing out their certificates of appreciation — „You Are Human Now“ is an older project of mine I haven't shared yet.
Back in 2022, I developed a website featuring just a captcha. I have always wondered why, after diligently solving these captchas, the only acknowledgment I received was a checkmark accompanied by the message 'You are not a robot.'
However, we encounter captchas on a daily basis. We click, select, and confirm. And in the meantime, we perform unpaid labor, sorting images for datasets — we work hard to prove our humanity. 'You Are Human Now' critically views this exchange: providing a company with all your data, time and labor, and in return, being acknowledged as a certified human.
I am beyond happy to share my master thesis with you! 💚🥹💜
Titled ‚How-to: Designing AI Design Tools,‘ the publication offers designers the opportunity to create their own AI-powered design tools. However, this project takes it a step further and becomes a ‚Meta How-to,‘ guiding step by step on how to create one’s own How-to guide while simultaneously demonstrating the development of the necessary tools.
The project involves the development of 10 different tools, each harnessing various AI technologies. For example, the video showcases the ‚Headline Letter Generator‘ using text-to-image technology. For each tool, you can access a link in the online publication that allows you to test it out, along with a tutorial guiding you on how to recreate the tool yourself.

Letters are essential tools in our lives. We communicate with and through them - both the meaning of the word and the appearance of the letters give expression to what is written. The initially analog craft of type design has become increasingly digital over time.
Today, artificial intelligence is the ubiquitous driving force behind automation. Almost all areas are affected by AI, but at the same time they also benefit from this technology. Under the increasing influence of new possibilities and tools, what will the typeface of the future look like?
At Media Lab @japanischespalais.skd@theconstitute we investigate collaborative processes between humans and artificial intelligence. We experiment with different tools for image generation and develop new forms of typography.
The pictured letters above are a part of the output of the workshops held by @orem.lipsum and myself. We are totally thrilled with the resulting letters and looking forward to more great workshops :)

Tbt 2019, when single use plastic and plastic pollution was my biggest problem. Just want to remind you (and myself) not to forget, even in Corona times we have to be aware of what plastic impacts to our world.
NEIN is a Zine @_hellenux and I created two years ago. Questioning the use of plastic in everyday life, the Zine tries to encourage people to consume less of it.
