Self-Drive. Ch.2
TB-LAB 008
When
@jack_featherstone and

@tomorrowbureau offered me the opportunity to make the soundtrack for Self Drive as part of their “LAB” experiment, the conversation around the music resolved around the creation of an ambient, dream like, classical soundtrack.
The goal was to convey a high-end feel with subtle nods to retro tech.
When discussing references, and elaborating on the work of “old school” music producers using their technical limitations to create timeless pieces and still giving a sense of what the future might feel like, I decided to use a single sound source, one synth, to represent the car and it’s journey : The Prophet 6.
While there is often great excitement to witness things that does not come from the same realm start to blend together and elevate each others meaning and their provenance, for this particular piece I was eager to embrace and infuse the concept of autonomy and self sufficiency in the creation of the soundtrack.
It’s also fun to give a subject a sense of characterization and identification through limiting its voice and relying on the range of a defined chain of functions.
