It all starts with my ink drawings on vellum, then into the darkroom to burn a screen. Once a silkscreen is made we can print it in many ways, layering and changing colors of water based ink. This fabric printed by my partner has 2 layers of screenprints, it will be sewn by a friend into headbands soon !!

I brought some really special pieces to @blackmountainvariety ! I mended and embroidered these vintage denim jeans with scraps of my prints a few years ago when I worked through the Artists Way. Workshop Alert 💫 Field Sketching in Color! Join me Saturday May 2 @adulteducation_ncarboretum to learn how to layer colors of ballpoint pens to create lifelike drawings, and practice these techniques drawing plants from life! It’s going to be a fun one, and I’d love to see you there!

This spring our mountains are fluttering — butterflies are returning to North Carolina in greater numbers than they have in years.
🌺 Native azaleas are a favorite nectar source for the Appalachian Tiger Swallowtail. Up on Hooper Bald, the flame azaleas are preparing to do what they’ve always done — open right on time for the pollinators that need them.
This is the world Dayna Walton of @solsticehandmade has been drawing into our 2026 Flame Azalea Festival poster.
Dayna’s work is a field guide of the easily missed — lichens, stoneflies, slime molds. Dayna understand that is an ecosystems dependence on the underdogs that help make a place a place. For this year’s poster, her pen has detailed the winged travelers that arrive with the blooms.
