My Lagos story 2
In those days, I paint & create, without knowledge of why, what or how the ideas come to be. All I knew was; I paint & create good. I could literally be disconnected from the source of the inspiration while working inspired. At such time ọbụrụmụ na eme.
Like a man who knows what he's doing but what is doing him is unknown to him.
Not until I started getting regular questions about my Artwork from this same angel in human form.
At first I considered those questions disturbing. Why would anyone want to explore my thoughts instead of just admire & move on. Do I even care about my own thoughts?
At some point I just gave answers, while trying to make sense of it.
Fast forward to my first ever Lagos solo exhibition; I was nearly drained answering similar questions that I never knew were the key to selling my artworks.
I learnt; Sense of purpose.
All he needed to do was just to ask me questions & allow me to reason my way out.
Talking about questions....
Do you know certain parts of your body can be used to measure length, in the absence of measuring instruments?
While you reason that out, pls do take out time & say words of prayer for this family that turned out; my life support. Making this painting, is a long moment of reflection & appreciation for me; to someone who fed me fish & didn't forget to teach me how to fish. 🙏🏾

My Lagos story...
Life is made easier when the people assigned to you by God respond to God's plan for your life.
This reality dawned on me when I came in contact with my favorite lecturer: "Mr. Yusuf kolawole"; & His amazing family, those days in my university years.
I was a Visual Artist in Geography studies; wondering why the skies are blue, yet rain drops appear colourless.
He became an answer to lots of my life questions and solely gave room for my self rediscovery. This was a time when my colourful mind was busy touring the world in confusion.
Tribal wars, Religious disparity and personal ideologies were real but rumours in our friendship.
It wasn't tolerance, it wasn't endurance or pity, yet he gave me all & more as though I was his little child who's learning how to walk....
To think about it, I'm still in awe.
Some people believe life is transactional but I've seen divinity in humanity, since God made this family the best part of my Lagos story.

Every time you tell me you can't draw. I know you don't realize how many combinations of alphabets you've scribbled on papers all your life; Only God knows how much canvases.... If you had done your drawing writings consciously like an Artist does.
Now that you know you've been drawing all your life, Can you please do me the honours of drawing again...? But this time, do it more intentional. Remember you started drawing your ABC as a kid.

For me, this piece is personal.
Among all the murals in this project, this painter feels closest to home. Maybe because I feel deeply connected to painters; obviously we share colour experience as an artist. We colour the world 🎨 🌍
