Recently @solidsurfhouse and I looked back on two of our instructors’ first impressions of the Mentawais—and relived every swell that came after. A true surfers paradise, and a place that always lives up to the hype🔥 🎥: @byrosefawcett @haedynoer

Sunset cricket with locals. Empty lineups. Golden beaches with barely a footprint. Street skates home after surf. The kind of moments you never plan for—but end up remembering most. That’s the magic of Sri Lanka in the off-season. Fewer crowds, slower days, real connection, and all the reasons this island hits differently when you come outside the peak season. And right now, there’s never been a better time to do it… we’re taking €200 off every weekly stay from now until 15th October. Less crowds. More moments. Same magic. 🇱🇰✨ • • • #srilanka #surfcamp #surftrip #surfing #surfcoaching

Summer in Taghazout Bay is considered the “low season” for surfing—but that’s exactly what makes it special. While winter brings the famous Atlantic swells and crowded point breaks, summer on Morocco’s coast is slower, warmer, and much more relaxed. Think: warm water temperatures, longer, sunnier days, and earlier surf sessions becoming the best time to paddle out. Low season here also means fewer crowds in the lineup, quieter cafés, slower evenings, and a chance to experience the rhythm of Morocco beyond the peak surf months. 🌊☀️🏄‍♂️ We’re also giving you all 100 euros off every weekly stay booked in July and August —head to solidsurfhouse.com to secure your spot! • • • #morocco #surfing #surfcamp #surftrip #surflife

If you spend enough time around surfers—whether you’re checking the conditions before sunrise, sitting in the lineup between sets, or listening to locals talk after a session—you’ll start hearing the same kinds of comments: “That reef only works on a pushing tide.” “The beachbreak is better around low tide.” “Wait for the incoming tide.” What surfers are really talking about is one of the biggest factors in how waves break: the tide. As the tide rises and falls, it changes the depth of water over sandbars, reefs, and points. That change in water depth can completely transform a wave—making it steeper, softer, faster, hollower, or sometimes not breaking well at all. Learning how tides affect your local breaks is one of the biggest steps toward becoming a better surfer. It helps you stop guessing, start reading conditions more confidently, and understand why a spot works at one time of day but not another. This tutorial will help you understand tides and plan for your next surf session 🏄‍♂️ • • • #surftips #surfing #surftutorial #surfcoaching #surfcoaching

@doudou_groulx putting our Super Fish through its paces in the Mentawai Islands 🌊 Part of our Solid Surf House quiver, available across all our locations for you to try during your stay 🏄‍♂️ The Super Fish is built for speed, flow, and easy wave-catching. With its wider outline, extra volume, and fish tail, it paddles effortlessly, gets up and running early, and carries speed through flatter sections—making it a super fun board for playful lines, smooth turns, and those days when you want more glide and less work. • • • #Mentawais #Surfboards #FishSurfboard #SurfTrip #SurfHouse

Choosing the right surfboard dimensions is one of the biggest factors in how quickly you improve and how much fun you have in the water. A surfboard’s dimensions affect how it paddles, catches waves, turns, and feels under your feet. When surfers talk about board dimensions, they usually mean three main measurements: * Length – how long the board is from nose to tail * Width – how wide the board is at its widest point * Thickness – how thick the board is from deck to bottom These dimensions work together to create the board’s volume, which affects buoyancy and stability. Understanding these basics will help you choose a board that matches your body size, skill level, and surfing goals. • • • #surftips #surfcoaching #surftutorial #surfing #surflife

Picture this: waking before sunrise, driving along a rugged desert coastline in search of the best swell of the day. By the time you paddle out, the sun is high, the ocean is alive, and clean lines are wrapping into world-class waves. Hours later, you paddle back in exhausted, content, and smiling—sharing stories of your best waves while sipping hot Moroccan tea in the parking lot as you soak in the morning. This is Morocco 🌊🇲🇦 • • • #morocco #surfcamp #surftrip #surfing #surfcoaching
