SOLI is thrilled to bring the music of San Antonio’s own Robert Xavier Rodríguez to Echoes of Home on May 5! 🎶
A Guggenheim Fellow and Prix Lili Boulanger recipient, Rodríguez is widely regarded as one of the major American composers of his generation. SOLI’s own Stephanie Key (clarinet) and David Mollenauer (cello) will be performing his vibrant work, "Piñata para los amantes."
Originally written as a tribute to Stephanie and David, the piece weaves samba rhythms and Mexican folk songs into a joyous, "whacking" piñata of a duo that culminates in a triumphant coda. It is a quintessential Texas voice, perfectly at home on a program celebrating the diversity of American music.
