Calling on all our volunteers - it’s almost time for the big day! Please join us to set up the Solar Flare venue, which will be starting at 4 pm on Friday, Oct 24 (aka tomorrow!!). We need all the helping hands we can get! Setup will take place on the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus, in the SDFC’s basketball courts. The Taylor Street parking garage is the closest parking option, a 7 minute walk away with a rate of $16 a day. However, if you’re commuting from another one of ASU’s campuses, the ASU shuttle is also an option, which departs every 20 minutes. Need help getting there or have questions about volunteering? Last Saturday, October 4th, DanceWise co-owner Paul had the opportunity to attend the rounds for @devildancesport and @wildcatdancesport to supervise and coach them from their upcoming competitions, including @phoenixfallfestival and @solarflarecomp 🤩🤩 Everyone danced their hearts out and received great feedback from Paul, who has such a wealth of knowledge and experience from his many years of professional dancing and teaching 😀. Did you know Paul has competed at Blackpool as both an amateur and as a professional in Ballroom and Latin?? A warm introduction to Ross Pearce, another judge on our panel! Ross brings his passion for perfection to the classroom as an instructor of Latin, Rhythm, Smooth, Standard, Country, and Cabaret/Theater Arts. Whether you are a social beginner just learning the basics, or a pro-am competitor looking to hone your technique and performance skills, Ross's care, quality of instruction, and thirty-plus years of experience in the studio and on the competition floor are sure to impress. He is also the owner of The Phoenix Ballroom Academy and The Phoenix Ballroom Shoe Store, where his dedication to excellence extends beyond the dance floor to the training and presentation of dancers at every level.

Welcoming another one of our judges! Aaron Lorenzen is a former professional ballroom competitor who now brings his expertise to the floor as a respected coach, adjudicator, and master of ceremonies. Based in Phoenix, Arizona, Aaron is known for his deep knowledge of dance, his clear and engaging presence as an MC, and his commitment to excellence in every role he takes on. With years of experience both on the competitive circuit and behind the judge’s table, Aaron continues to contribute to the growth and integrity of ballroom dance. He is honored to be judging this weekend and looks forward to celebrating the talent and dedication of each competitor.

Introducing our next judge! Michael is an experienced choreographer, competitor and instructor with over 20 years experience in performing arts education. He holds highly commended credentials with the Imperial Society (ISTD), and USISTD/AIDA in all four styles and sits on the national committee for USISTD/AIDA.

A warm welcome to another one of the judges on our panel! Maja Servé is a distinguished five-time Danish Champion in Professional Standard. She has been a finalist in world-class competitions, including the World Championship, European Championship, British Open, International Championship, United Kingdom Championship, German Open, US Ballroom Championship, Japan Open, and Dutch Open. An IDTA Fellow in both Latin and Standard, and a NADTA Member in Standard, Latin, Smooth, Rhythm, and Theater Arts, Maja has also served as a judge representing the US in numerous international championships. Maja is a co-founder of the Body School of Dancing and Teaching and has coached numerous champions many champions across various dance styles during her over thirty years in the US. Her extensive training and background in accent teachings and human potential adds a unique perspective to her coaching. Additionally, she was trained as a Life Coach by Bob Proctor, known for the influential movie and book “The Secret.” Maja is also a published author with several books on ballroom dance, life coaching, tourism, and she offers an online program for bronze-level dancers.

Introducing the third judge on our panel! Diona Peltcs is a dance educator, choreographer and former competitive ballroom dancer specializing in International Style. She holds an MFA in Dance with a Teaching Certificate from Arizona State University and has taught ballroom, latin, swing, salsa, and country western dance at both secondary and collegiate levels. Drawing on her background as both a performer and educator, she continues to share her passion for the artistry, discipline, and community of dance through teaching, choreography, and research. She is thrilled to be back at her alma mater to serve as a judge!
