Head In The Clouds

This drawing entitled “Head In The Clouds” was made with graphite, prismacolor colored pencils, and a brush tip marker. The pose depicts me tilting my head back as I laugh and clap my hands as if I am watching a satisfying performance. This pose is meant to invoke a feeling of happiness and contentment as one might feel after hearing a good joke. This pose is meant to show me at my happiest and radiate optimism. My choice of dress being the gray track jacket is suppose to symbolize the trials and tribulations that life may present me but even through it all I meet those challenges with a smile.
The background pattern is the main inspiration for the title of this work. It also coincides with my pose and meaning behind it. The clouds are taken as a direct reference to the popular cartoon The Simpsons. The cartoony illustration of the clouds represents a playfulness about my personality that I wanted to represent. The contrast of the more realistic depiction of myself against these more sketch-like clouds shows that I am always imagining something else, living in my own head, dreaming up the next step in my life. The placement of my pose in these clouds gives way to the “on the nose” title of this piece
