For generations, Glen Cove has been a place of deep cultural and natural significance to the Patwin people. Long before restoration efforts began, Yocha Dehe, Kletsel Dehe Wintun Nation and the City of Vallejo established a cultural and conservation easement in 2011 to help protect this shoreline’s cultural and natural resources. Building on that shared commitment, restoration efforts supported through Doyuti T’uhkama began in 2021 with a focus on restoring native habitat, strengthening ecological health and helping ensure the long-term resilience of the site. Here’s a snapshot of that progress — and the partnership, care and stewardship that continue to guide this work.

We’re proud to partner with @myfssd on the Fairfield-Suisun Water Resilience Program, educating 359 local 5th graders this year about their water infrastructure and how they can build resilience in their communities. In this free program, students receive two visits to their classroom and join our teams onsite at FSSD for a field trip where they install native species, tour the wastewater treatment plant, and participate in a community engagement meeting to think about what they want the future to look like. 98% of students said they felt better prepared to make good water choices after the program, which feels like a great way to celebrate FSSD’s 75th anniversary and ongoing commitment to outreach. Meet the Team👋 Monica grew up in Contra Costa County in the Concord area and became interested in agriculture during her time as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mali and Guinea. One of her favorite parts of working as an Agriculture Project Manager is getting to meet and work with landowners and growers across Solano County to implement conservation practices such as applying compost, planting cover crops and installing hedgerows. She is also very excited about the use of drones as an option to seed and terminate cover crops when field conditions are too wet to use equipment. Some of her favorite native plants are flannelbush and Salvia Bee’s Bliss. Thanks for all you do Monica! Stay tuned for our next staff spotlight where we introduce different members of our dynamic team here at Solano RCD. #staffspotlight #SolanoCounty RCD
