April is Black Women’s History Month, and for our
“But What If...” workshop, we chose American scientist and inventor, Valerie Thomas as our muse.
To honor both tech and art, we commissioned
Los Angeles-based artist Laci Jordan to use her unique creative language to depict Valerie, in turn spotlighting 2 impactful creators at once.
The result: 30 Black women had an opportunity to learn and create with this artwork at the center 💫

One of my best friends sent me a message at midnight that really reminded me that despite how hard I can be on myself about what I don't have or what I'm not doing, my life is truly beautiful and abundant. I'm living a life young me never thought of and I'm so grateful for that. I feel so much love 💕 happy birthday to me. Another year of being undeniably sickening 🌹

Lessons from a project I almost moved on from too quickly 🌹
A few days after the Visa project launch, my mom asked how I felt about the results and I realized I hadn’t properly sat with the accomplishment of creating something I’m proud of. I move on from projects so quickly that I rarely give myself time to really reflect, always thinking about what’s next.

#tbt to my first major brand opportunity EVER 🥹
The last time NBA All-Star was in LA was Feb 2018. Months prior (Oct 2017) I called my mom and told her I’d been praying about quitting my job, and that I was sure God gave me a sign to pull the trigger. Mind you, entrepreneurship was not on my bingo card… I like stability… w/ benefits, bonuses, and what not. Butttt I knew I had outgrown my current job at the time, and after looking around at other opportunities, I also knew nothing would fulfill me long term. I told my mama that if I could just stack 10k I would quit and hustle the rest (LOL).
January 2018 I got an email asking if I wanted to hear more about an All-Star Project with @jumpman23 The project fee? 10k 🥹 I quit my job that April (right after I came back from my bday vacation like a true Taurus lmaooo).
Not only was this my first major brand opportunity EVER…but it was with a brand I grew up with, a brand that was on my dream list, and the opportunity that set me out on a path to bet for myself. Since then I’ve worked with them numerous times… from murals, merch, panels, campaigns, and brand trips🤞🏾
Obviously I’m feeling nostalgic lol, but ASW here brings back a lot of good memories, and reminds me of where I started and how much I’ve done since then. Even though I reallyyyy miss those benefits, bonuses, and stability lmaooo, I’m really glad I bet on myself.
Also, biggggg shoutout to @sobe.myself he’s been saying my name is rooms for YEARS and it started with that project. And big shoutout to @juworkingonprojects as well for putting me on. 🌹

Truth be told, I’m a star running back in my mind lol! One of the best to ever do it 🥇 The same confidence, dedication, consistency, and innate talent an athlete has to embody to get them through the biggest games of their lives, are the same qualities I possess within my artistry and life 💁🏾♀️
When @visa asked me to create something in celebration of the Super Bowl, this concept came to me immediately. How does an artist prepare for their craft? How are star players made? Is there a correlation? The training and goals might be different, but the foundation of greatness is the same.🤞🏾
One thing I know for sure, I'm always ready for the big leagues, are you? 🏆
