Today’s #transdayofvisibility🏳️‍⚧️ and in case someone hasn’t gotten the memo, I’m a non-binary transfemme genderfuck who uses she/her and they/them pronouns interchangeably. And this year I’m sitting with the most visibility I’ve ever had. I share my art and it connects with people, and I never thought I would make it to this point. I’m so glad I did.
One of the things that isn’t necessarily obvious about my musical approach is that it’s all intertwined with my own experience as a trans person. Taking my time, enacting small changes, changing the piece from one motif to another in a way that is almost imperceptible in the moment - it is my way of depicting my own transformation as I’ve stepped into my best self to date. Growth doesn’t happen overnight. I didnt just wake up with the knowledge and experience I have now. it has been a long and often painful process into becoming who I am, and I wouldnt change it for anything in the world. The bliss I feel when I take stock of the present moment is a bliss I never expected to feel so deeply.
To my trans siblings of all genders and expressions, I love you dearly and the world is so much richer with you in it. Whether we have known each other for ages, whether I’ve known you only briefly, whether I know you at all - I love you and your contribution to the universe simply by being. Continue blossoming, continue thriving, or at the very least continue trying. I know things are broadly shite in the world but the world needs you now more than ever. I need you now more than ever.
