Thank you to everyone who came to our two events at the weekend, to our artists-in-residence for putting on a wonderful pop-up exhibition, and to Per Roger Bekken for making it possible to host the exhibition at Bortistu.
We are sad to already have to say goodbye to two of our artists this week - Sofie and David, but thankfully we get to hold on to Eso and Børge for another month! They will be joined by 3 new artists at the end of this week and woody explorations will continue 🌲

It's about time we started introducing you to the lovely group of artists we have with us at the moment!
Meet ✨️Sofie Brønner✨️
@sofiebronner
Sofie (b. 1991) is originally from Tynset but hasn't lived here for 17 years. She lives and works in Oslo, where she studied at the Academy of Fine Art and the Oslo School of Photography. She works with sculpture and photography, often combining unexpected materials such as wood, textiles, bath bombs, and iron filings.
Thematically, Brønner is interested in relationships, cycles, and textures, creating works with organic forms based on a multifaceted understanding of the body: as consciousness, as a feedback loop, and as a strange, alien-like figure.
Recently, she has been working with collage based on her own photo archive, cutting shapes out of photographs and layering them on top of each other.
Sofie has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including at the National Museum, Buskerud Kunstsenter, Skog Art Space, and Tartu Art Center. In 2027, she will present a solo exhibition at Kunstpunkt Lista.
You can also meet her at our open house on Friday and our pop-up exhibition on Sunday - check Facebook for details!
It is so fun and exciting to see things taking shape here at the moment. 🤩 After a busy programme last week, there has since been time for gathering materials, establishing working spaces and getting stuck into projects. New wooden friends have been emerging in both expected and unexpected places. 👀 The wood take-over is underway!

Today's woody adventure brought us to the wonderful Tylldalen.🌲
We started the day off in the community hall where @moen_roar told told us about the history and contemporary function of the village's collectively owned forest, Tyldal Sogneskog. Following this, traditional craftsman Semming Øverby Lund held a presentation about the re-production of Tylldalen's Saint Olav statue.
After this we visited the woodchip boiler plant and the local sawmill where Jon Moen talked to us about processing logs into lumber - which he also demonstrated alongside Ove and Andreas Horten. What an amazing community of people Tylldalen has, willing to meet and share their knowledge with a group of curious artists. We are so lucky!
And there was, of course, also time for checking out old cars and scouting for materials👀

Da er vi i gang med et nytt kunstneropphold!
Our residency Wood as Material | Forest as Practice has officially begun and we have had the pleasure of inviting a delightful new group of artists to Tynset 👋
We have some exciting things on the agenda this week, as we begin to explore this shared theme in a local context.
We started the day with a group presentation session in Rambu before an unexpectedly sunny walk to Bortistu Neby. There we were invited in to see the late Magne Holter's wood carving workshop. What a treasure chest of a place!✨️ A special thanks to @malermesterbekken for this opportunity and the very informative guided tour. We can't wait to come back! Feeling very excited about the coming weeks and where this project will take us 😃

🪅
You are warmly invited to Midtvinterblot: a festivity of chocolate, snakes and fire dancing on Saturday, 17th January from 15:00–18:00 featuring performances by Kirsty Kross, Mattias Hellberg, Pina Stroynowska, Sofie Brønner and Daria!!!🔥🐎🐍
Midvinterblot marks the latest iteration of Kirsty Kross’ ongoing Blot series. Through gathering, play, and shared attention, the blot series is an experiment in how to rejuvenate the blot celebrations of the Old Norse belief system through contemporary artistic methods - minus links to nationalism, far-right ideology, Viking reenactments and violence. Instead, each time the gathered group creates a conceptual horse sculpture through synchronicity and improvised play which is then dramatically destroyed as a form of symbolic sacrifice🐴
Midtvinterblot will also activate Kirsty Kross’ sculpture, “Hesten til Vårblot” which is currently exhibited in Billedhoggerforening’s Skulpturpark and was created during the spring blot of 2025🗿🌳
You are welcome to participate in Midtvintersblot any time between 15-18, but we strongly suggest you arrive at the start at 15 to experience the start og the gathering! We’re excited to see you! ❤️🔥

Tonight, September 25, the exhibition «Winter Nights» opens at «BO – Billedkunstnerne i Oslo», curated by the wonderful Eleni Riga. Together with some of my favorite artists, I will be showing my film «New Norwegian Art History: Dark Landscapes»!
For a year I wandered through Oslo’s largest haunted house, the old National Gallery, filming a guided tour of what I call «New Norwegian Art History»: a non-linear narrative about images, death, art, magic, national romanticism, J.C. Dahl, and the Nazis’ attempts to control the gaze.
The film had to be shot at night in order to capture the right light. Whenever I was there alone, I would keep my phone ready in one hand, trying to ignore the sounds from the upper floors or the lights suddenly flickering on and off.
I carried a distinct sense that a house abandoned for so long develops a life of its own, one where humans do not necessarily belong.
I would like to thank Sofie Brønner, Marie B. Sheehan, and of course Magnus for keeping me company throughout this process, and for providing both moral and practical support. And a special thank you to curator Eleni Riga, who gave me the opportunity to realize this film; something I had wanted to do for a long time.
I hope to see you tonight at 6:00 PM. You are warmly welcome!
On June 20th «Hesten til Vårblot» was installed in Norsk Billedhoggerforening’s Sculpture park and featured an intervention of 6 artists disguised in eco-art inspired oil platform avatars which they added to the horse sculpture. The initial skeleton of the horse sculpture was built as a ritual back in April on the Pink Full Moon. After dinner, we played «Oil Platform» head (just like the celebrity head guessing game but with oil platforms cards from the family card game, Norwegian Oil Platforms that I had found at Fretex) and also made some masks. In the months that followed I transformed the masks into oil platform sculptures based on the cards we drew. Interestingly, one friend who has worked on oil platforms, had worked on «my» oil platform which in a way proves how many degrees of separation I am from this unsustainable industry and how entangled all Norwegians are(even eco-feminist artists) in this dangerous shitstorm... photos by @lomellz
