Based in Ghent, 𝗦𝗢𝗙𝗜𝗘 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗘𝗚𝗘𝗡 develops an intuitive practice across ceramic sculpture, bas-reliefs and painting. Drawing from mythology, eroticism and the natural world, her works introduce seemingly naïve figures into tactile, ambiguous scenes where boundaries between human and animal, masculine and feminine, begin to dissolve.
Influenced in part by time spent living and working in Marseille, her recent works carry a distinct warmth and sensuality, while introducing the timeless theme of the still life.

A reflection on the contemporary still life, alongside our upcoming duo exhibition at noon Antwerp in May with Orlando Gruwez and Sofie Steegen, in @artmagazinecollect .
Sofie Steegen (BE, 1996) is een keramisch beeldhouwer en schilder gevestigd in Gent. Haar werk omvat keramische tegelschilderingen en bas-reliëfs, waarin vorm en kleur ontstaan door een intuïtieve dialoog met haar materialen. Sofie put inspiratie uit eclectische bronnen, variërend van historische artefacten tot grillige snuisterijen, vaak doordrenkt met een gevoel van onschuld en speelsheid. Haar artistieke universum is geworteld in thema’s als erotiek, Griekse mythologie en de natuur.
