From September 2024–2025, across Argentina, Sofía López Mañán (
@sofialopezmanan ) has been documenting ‘The Taste of Honey’, a project that uses bees as a lens to explore how humans relate to territory, culture, and survival. Moving from the dry forests of the Chaco to the Atlantic rainforest and into the heart of Buenos Aires, the work follows beekeeping families, Indigenous Mbya Guaraní communities, and urban beekeepers whose lives are deeply intertwined with pollinators and place.
Through three interconnected stories, the project reveals how honey becomes a form of resistance, healing, and coexistence. From forest hives threatened by deforestation to native yateí bees holding medicinal and spiritual meaning, and feral colonies rescued from city walls, each hive reflects a way of living and asks how human and ecological futures are inseparable.
Sofía, a 2025
