Sofia Hiramatsu Photography is proud to be an Official Partner of @weddedwonderland . As one of the world’s leading platforms for luxury, cultural, and destination weddings, Wedded Wonderland brings together some of the most inspiring venues and creatives across the globe. Being recognised as part of this community is an honour I’m truly grateful for. Based in Japan, I photograph weddings and celebrations throughout East Asia and worldwide, with a UK base that allows me to work closely with couples planning destination weddings across Europe and beyond. For the past 10 years, I’ve had the privilege of documenting love stories in a way that feels emotional, artistic, and timeless. My work blends both digital and film photography, something still incredibly rare within the wedding industry in Japan, allowing me to create imagery that feels both refined and deeply nostalgic. From intimate destination elopements to multi day luxury celebrations, I’m passionate about capturing weddings in a way that preserves not only how the day looked, but how it truly felt. Every couple, culture, and celebration is different, and I believe the experience and imagery should reflect that with intention and care. I’m so excited to connect with more couples from around the world and continue documenting unforgettable celebrations across Japan, Europe, and beyond. About a month before I gave birth, I had the joy of collaborating with some truly wonderful souls to create a series of images that feel deeply personal to me. I’ve been holding them close, and I’m finally ready to start sharing them with you. To begin, here is Jessica on film. I wanted to explore themes of transformation and becoming. Pregnancy had placed me in a liminal space, a moment suspended between who I was and who I was about to be. The butterflies became a metaphor for that metamorphosis. The veil was intentional as well, symbolising both vulnerability and protection, creating a gentle barrier between the world and the subject while still allowing the viewer to feel close to her. Shooting on film added an organic softness that couldn’t be replicated. I wanted the image to feel timeless, intimate, and almost ethereal, as though we were catching a glimpse of something sacred and fleeting. a quiet ode to change, to womanhood, to growth, and to the beauty found in stillness. Thank you to the incredible team Hair & Makeup:  @vlada71@vlada_wedding Model @tomoshiga

A Kyoto elopement offers a rare mix of traditional temple landscapes and cinematic city scenes, all within a single day. Kyoto’s historic temple grounds are known for their depth and atmosphere. Expansive pathways, centuries old architecture, and pockets of quiet that feel removed from the rest of the city. The balance between open space and intimate corners creates a setting that feels both grand and personal, especially as the light softens later in the day. We kept the start of the shoot unhurried, allowing the surroundings to guide the pace rather than forcing anything. The stillness of the temple naturally shaped the moments. As the evening approached, we moved into the city, where everything shifted. Tighter streets, glowing lanterns, more movement and energy. The contrast between the calm of the day and the vibrancy of the night brought a different layer to the story without needing to overcomplicate it. #kyotoelopement #kyotoweddingphotographer #gionkyoto #luxuryweddingjapan

I Found this dragon staircase hidden in Phu Quoc and immediately knew I wanted to turn it into a wedding editorial. The bougainvillea, tropical greens, and curved stone steps felt cinematic in the best way. I Shot across digital and film with a focus on texture, contrast, and quiet luxury. #luxuryweddingphotographer #vietnamweddingphotographer #phuquocwedding #destinationweddingphotographer #weddedpartner . . . . . @wed_vibes_events @wed_vibes @weddedwonderlandnetwork @weddedwonderland @weddedconcierge @thewed @the_lane

Luxury wedding photographer @sofiahiramatsu in Vietnam capturing Munir & Elvira in Phu Quoc. Set within one of Phu Quoc’s lush coastal resorts, the location is defined by cascading bougainvillea, sunlit stone staircases, and layered tropical greenery overlooking the sea. The architecture blends Mediterranean influence with the island’s natural landscape, creating a setting that feels private, elevated, and visually rich from every angle. This editorial leaned into contrast. Clean white tailoring against saturated greens and florals, sharp sunlight against soft film tones, and bold red textures woven through the details. Shot across digital and film, the series balances precision with atmosphere, letting the setting and styling carry a quiet sense of luxury without excess. #luxuryweddingphotographer #vietnamweddingphotographer #phuquocwedding #destinationweddingphotographer

Shooting both digital and film means I need a setup that lets me move quickly while still staying comfortable through long wedding days. The @spiderholster belt has honestly been such a game changer for me. It keeps both cameras easily accessible, distributes the weight so comfortably, and makes running between moments throughout the day feel effortless. I also carry my Loulex fanny pack with me, which somehow fits everything I need without feeling bulky. Extra film, batteries, SD cards, my flash, trigger, and all the little essentials that come with shooting weddings and elopements. Sharing a little behind the scenes of my current camera setup as a luxury wedding and elopement photographer shooting across Asia and Europe. #LuxuryWeddingPhotographer #ElopementPhotographer #DestinationWeddingPhotographer #WeddingPhotographer #WeddingPhotography FilmWeddingPhotographer DigitalAndFilm SpiderHolster CameraSetup PhotographyGear DestinationElopement AsiaWeddingPhotographer EuropeWeddingPhotographer JapanWeddingPhotographer LuxuryElopement BehindTheScenes FilmPhotography WeddingInspiration AdventureElopement WeddingReel

A Kyoto elopement is one of the most intentional ways to get married in Japan, stripped back to just the two of you and the moments that actually matter. Kyoto has this ability to hold contrast without feeling chaotic. You can move from quiet, almost still spaces into streets that feel alive in a completely different way. The textures change, the light changes, even the pace shifts. It gives you options without ever feeling overwhelming, which is exactly why it works so well for elopements. This one unfolded slowly. Nothing forced, nothing overly directed. Just letting them exist in each space as it came. A pause on the bridge, a longer look than usual, hands finding each other without thinking. By the time we reached the city at night, everything felt softer, more familiar. The kind of energy where you don’t need to say much. It just sits there between you. #kyotoelopement #luxuryweddingjapan #destinationweddingjapan #kyotowedding

Today is my first Mother’s Day here in Japan, as a mom myself. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of photographing so many incredible mothers from all over the world. Some while pregnant, some chasing toddlers between photos, I always thought I understood what I was capturing. Then I had my daughter. And suddenly, the women in front of my camera began to feel different to me. Familiar in a way I could never fully understand before. Now I notice the small things more. The protective hand resting instinctively on a growing belly. The tired eyes mixed with overwhelming love. The way mothers hold their children close without even thinking about it. The softness, the strength, the constant awareness that part of your heart now exists outside of you. Becoming a mother has changed the way I take photographs. Not technically, but emotionally. I think I photograph more gently now. More intentionally. I pay closer attention to the in between moments. The quiet touches. The emotion hidden beneath composure. The things I know my own daughter might one day want to remember about me. To all the amazing mothers I’ve photographed through every stage of motherhood, thank you for trusting me to document such meaningful seasons of your lives. I see your love so differently now. Happy Mother’s Day 🤍 #mothersday

Japan wedding photographer @sofiahiramatsu capturing Miri and Damien’s Tokyo wedding photoshoot in a way that feels both refined and deeply personal. Tokyo offers a completely different kind of backdrop for wedding photography. Clean architectural lines, soft garden textures, and pockets of quiet hidden within the city create space for images that feel intentional rather than staged. The contrast between structured interiors and organic outdoor moments adds depth without needing to overcomplicate the setting. This shoot was about creating something they didn’t have the chance to experience on their actual day. Slowing everything down, letting them move naturally, and building moments that felt honest rather than directed. From the softer, editorial frames to the more intimate in between moments, the focus stayed on connection over perfection. #japanweddingphotographer #tokyoweddingphotographer #destinationweddingphotographerjapan #luxuryweddingphotographerjapan

As a Japan elopement photographer, I love capturing the kind of contrast you don’t really plan for, but end up wanting once you see it come together. Kyoto has this layered rhythm to it. Wide, open spaces where everything feels grounded and still, then just a short walk and you’re surrounded by texture, light, and movement. It’s not about fitting into one aesthetic. It’s about letting the location shift the mood for you. This shoot didn’t follow a strict structure. We moved when it felt right, paused when something caught our attention, stayed longer in places that had something to give. The bridge, the stone steps, the way the light sat just behind them for a second longer than expected. By the time we reached the city, everything felt more instinctive. Less thinking, more reacting. Those are usually the frames that stay. #japanelopementphotographer #kyotoelopementphotographer #destinationweddingphotographerjapan #luxuryweddingphotographerjapan

An Arashiyama elopement in Kyoto has a way of pulling you out of everything else and into something much quieter, much more intentional. There’s a softness to the bamboo grove that you don’t really notice until you’re in it. The way the light filters through, the way sound feels muted, everything slows without you trying. Then just beyond that, Kyoto shifts again. Historic structures, stronger lines, deeper tones. It creates a natural contrast that gives the day more depth without forcing it. With Teri and Marshall, we followed that transition instead of planning around it. Letting the calm of the forest set the tone first, then allowing the architecture to bring in something more grounded. No strict direction, just moving with the space and letting each environment shape how they interacted with each other. #arashiyamabamboo #kyotocastle #kyotoelopement #arashiyamaelopement
