Happy Mother’s Day to everyone who celebrates.
This is my first year without my mum this year, but it’s been about five years since she had remembered things like Mother’s Day at all. my kids love bombed us all (in the best of ways!) each year. This year, my desk overflows. There’s some extra craft not pictured (a coaster tile H made that my coffee thermos is snuggled on). When the kids move away from junior school in a few years the craft will stop and I’ll miss that, but I’ll keep the cards until they’re faded anyway. 🖤🖤
ALPACA UPDATE — FREEFFALL IN A COAT 🖤
Cute bit then the serious bit.
It was cold for us last night. A ten degree difference (about 13.5F difference) from the night before to almost freezing. That’s a pretty big plummet to someone on her fifth night of existence. Freefall is a bit tiny for my existing alpaca coat so I ran to the shops (the shops being 50mins away each way) and bought her an interim puffer jacket. She cuddles in that coat like an alpaca boss! And she’s the sweetest.
Now for the real update. Freefall is fine. FINE. No problems there.

Freefall is a healthy weight and gaining with supplement feeds. Gracie, her mum, is okayish now, but this week has been a challenge I did not foresee. We haven’t slept much. On day 3 Gracie suffered 6 seizures, one major and 5 minor. She wandered around blind and dazed after, and I spent every minute in the paddock with her as she got stuck in fences and the feeder (now removed). I made calls to mentors and vets. Emergency mode was activated. Neighbour came through with calcium which has been a godsend and potential lifesaver. And yesterday we got a team of vets (one teacher and four students) out to give and IV and medicine. After bloods, Gracie is low in calcium (still) and iron. She also has mastitis separate from the seizures. I’ve still got a lot of work to to do but this morning Freefall put on weight, and fed from her mum. Now they’re cuddling in the sun and she loves her coat (for cold nights only).
