JEANNE DâARC FEMEN NOT RN!
On Sunday, May 10, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., four activists from #FEMEN dressed as Joan of Arc joined the patriotic celebration organized by the city hall of Carcassonne, rejecting the far rightâs appropriation of this historical figure.
Shouting âFEMINIST, NOT FASCIST!â and âFEMEN NOT RN!â, they made their message loud and clear.
These modern amazons seek to denounce the populist policies of Carcassonneâs new RN mayor, Christophe BarthĂšs, who, by reinstalling the statue of Joan of Arc in front of Saint Michaelâs Cathedral, openly displays his ideological connection to the far right of Jean-Marie Le Pen.
The former leader of the National Front had made the Maid of OrlĂ©ans his symbolic figurehead following the 1988 presidential election, when, after finishing fourth, he decided to celebrate Joan of Arc every May 1st. The ritual continued until 2015, when, expelled from the RN by his daughter because of his comments about the gas chambers (âa detail of history,â in his words), he shouted âJoan, help us!â in front of the golden statue of Joan of Arc at Place des Pyramides.
Let us also recall that since his election last March, Christophe BarthĂšs has removed the European flag from the façade of city hall (despite having received âŹ300,000 in cumulative European subsidies during his years as a farmer), introduced an anti-begging decree, infiltrated an Instagram group of high school students to intimidate them, and attempted to block a student protest.
But a major fail for #BarthĂšs: on April 29, around 400 high school and university students demonstrated against him in Carcassonne.
He also decided to suspend all subsidies and/or access to public premises for associations that publicly oppose him, beginning with the Ligue des droits de lâHomme and left-wing trade unions (CGT, Sud Solidaires, FSU).
Joan of Arc drove out invaders â not foreigners, homeless people, or students!
#FEMEN denounces these acts of intimidation, these fascist-style provocations, and this low-grade populism, which have no place in a democracy!
