BC Apartment Refurbishment, 2.2024 - 4.2024 The renovation of this attic reacts to the rules of the real estate market of the large European capitals, where apartments are increasingly smaller and more expensive. A tent, like a virus, occupies the space without altering the original structure of the building. The idea of the house is that of a base camp, you live on the ground, expanding your perception of space and sleep in an ephemeral tent. The completely white space becomes the abstract and virtual scenario that hosts a few essential recovered objects, generic waste re-engineered specifically for the new shelter. Ph: @louisdebelle

1.0 in Rome Apartment, 8.2021-7.2022 Ph. @louisdebelle The space of the house is defined by the sole act of removing. Taking away cladding materials and superfluous partitions, the result is to live close to the original structure of the building. The will is to erase the contrived bourgeois image of the house and to bring it back to its foundation, which resembles more the one of an infrastructure. The original plan, characterized by a rigid spatial arrangement, is broken by the creation of punctual openings in the structural walls. The space is now open in multiple directions. The enfilade is dismantled, as well as the distinction between -servants and served- spaces. The result is one continuous open space exposed to the city. The main new addition consists of a burnished aluminum cross beam that runs through the public spaces of the house. The beam is the main lighting element of the house and it acts like a thread that connects and keeps together all the rooms, emphasizing they are one space. This element reverses the relationship between what is structural and what is not. A cross-shaped pillar signs the beginning of this system, it is symbolically rooted in the dark concrete ground and defines the entrance space of the house.

Only time as a material question how long -or how briefly can a building endure. The past is legible only as a present architectonic fact. Historical interpretation is suspended in favor of direct engagement with what persists materially. Within this condition change is understood as minimal deviation. The operative rules are those of an economy of means, evolution through the smallest possible alteration.

BC apt As problems unravel, hustles unravel. Houses, words, women, and men, unravel. Furniture, bodies, fixtures, and moments, unravel. Empty your apartment and empty your soul; unravel. White, white, and white all around. It’s snowing light. Hustles of a side hustle of a side hustle, we drift along, as we unravel in silence. Recline, sit down, stretch over, and lay; unravel. The aftermath of a house is a life lived within it. X > 61K Taxonomy of a closed system In Italy, arguments seeking to justify the existence of prisons or criticise their current conditions often rely on narratives based on data, statistics and moral principles. However, a prison is first and foremost a physical space that, more than any abstract theorisation, conditions the ways in which punishment is inflicted on incarcerated individuals. Through an analysis that spans from the urban scale to the individual cell, the work explores the architectural rules that define this space. Juxtaposing found footage from contemporary Italian prisons with the tale of a fictional city of 61.000 inhabitants—the current prison population of the country—the work re-centres space to bring it back to the core of the debate. Understanding and decoding the experience of inhabiting a prison is presented as a crucial step toward radically questioning the existence of the prison-industrial complex.
