As the festival has ended yesterday, i want to thank the @berlinale , a unique and essential festival championing bold cinema rooted in reality. Beyond the sensational headlines, the program clearly spoke about the world, its peoples, its wounds, its wars, holding up a lucid and necessary mirror.
I warmly embrace my fellow jurors, Frédéric and @dorotamischka .
We awarded the GWFF Best First Feature Award (€50,000) to Chronicles from the siege by Abdallah El Khatib. It offers a rare, profoundly human perspective from besieged Gaza, where people simply strive to live with dignity.
The special jury prize is a political film in different way, an ode to slow living, solitude, and nature. A quiet resistance to a world obsessed with speed and conflict.
In an age of “instant news” and reflex reactions, the @berlinale chooses time, complexity, and nuance. Bravo to Tricia Tuttle and her amazing team for their courageous and committed work.
Grateful to have joined the Perspectives jury for the films competing for Best First Feature at the @berlinale
Grateful for the honour and the responsibility it carries. In a world that is so fragile, cinema is essential as an act of resistance, and as a space to connect, to feel, and to imagine with empathy and courage.

✨ Inauguration historique du tout premier pavillon marocain à la Biennale d’Architecture de Venise !
Quel honneur d’avoir fait partie du jury, présidé par notre cher @mehdiqotbi , aux côtés de personnalités passionnées et engagées.
Le pavillon met à l’honneur un duo d’architectes : Khalil Morad El Ghilali @belyas.co et El Mehdi Belyasmine @ateliersbe , qui proposent une expérience immersive autour du savoir-faire ancestral de la construction en terre, comme réponse contemporaine aux défis climatiques.
Un grand bravo aux équipes du Ministère de la Jeunesse, de la Culture et de la Communication ainsi que du Ministère de l’Aménagement du territoire national, de l’Urbanisme, de l’Habitat et de la Politique de la Ville pour cette belle première ✨🇲🇦

Clap de fin sur la 48e session de #LaRésidence 🎬 Samedi dernier, les 6 jeunes cinéastes qui ont profité de cette "couveuse" parisienne durant ces 4 derniers mois nous ont dit au revoir. Parmi eux, la réalisatrice maroco-française Sofia Alaoui est aussi scénariste, directrice de la photo, ingénieure du son, productrice... Un parcours qui mérite qu’on s’y arrête un instant !

A wrap on the 48th session of #LaRésidence 🎬 Last Saturday, the 6 young filmmakers who benefited from this Parisian "incubator" over the past 4 months said their goodbyes. Among them, Morocco-French director Sofia Alaoui is also a screenwriter, director of photography, sound engineer, producer... A journey worth pausing to reflect on!

"Ils disent" que notre groupe incarne un renouveau du cinéma français, démontrant à tous aujourd'hui plus que jamais que la diversité et le multiculturalisme est l'avenir.

Franco-Moroccan director Sofia Alaoui talks about her inspirations and all the amazing work behind “Animalia”, her visually stunning feature debut where sci-fi, survival and philosophical issues meet.
The film, which world-premiered at Sundance festival, will shortly be released in Spain.
Previously, Sofia Alaoui won the Cesar Award for Best fiction short in 2021 with “So What if Goats Die”.

Tout a commencé il y a des années...
Il y a eu "Qu'importe si les bêtes meurent", il y a eu la joie puis la certitude de vouloir faire un long, puis des doutes, des obstacles et beaucoup, beaucoup de difficultés.
Un long chemin qui m'a fait cheminer et qui s'arrête le 09 août 2023, date à laquelle mon premier long-métrage sera à vous. 🫣💚
