Little Art Walk this morning has me reflecting big time on changes happening in Oakland. First and foremost, I need to find new housing ASAP and any leads on that are appreciated. Secondly, @communitydemocracyaction is on pause at the moment; the good people at the Community Democracy Project are going to wait for the next election cycle to make a big push on the People’s’ Budget Oakland initiative. And finally, so much change in the Art and landscape of these streets as well. The 3400 Walgreens on Tele just closed this month and good riddance, the outside walls are already covered in beautiful pieces. And across the street, the legendary @tasteofdenmark closed its doors after almost 100 years. While the Art outside this shop will live on, it’s sad to see a neighborhood spot with a good cup of coffee shutter up. Had a conversation with an ancient local this morning who looked almost as old as the bakery, and we both got sad as soon as gentrification came up. Oh Oakland, how I love you and your painted walls and magnificent constant changes.
