Last week in Milan, 150 runners lined up outside Central Station at 2 a.m. to race a through drunken design week debauchery, pitch black parks, ancient landmarks, and projects that are the birthplace of Italian Trap. Brilliant routing, tactics, speed and some risk took first place in all three divisions in over 20 kilometers on one of the best courses in the history of unsanctioned racing. It has been a long-time dream of mine to take OSR outside of NYC, and the US, to see what one of our races would feel like somewhere completely new. Milano, you were beautiful last night, and together we made that dream come true. Thank you. Thank you to our partners in crime @mental.athletic for initiating and co-creating this amazing experience. Working with people who understand the feeling, the energy, and the purpose behind this kind of race made the entire process feel easy in the best way. I know there is more to come and we look forward to working together again. I spiraled into an exercise addiction after being publicly humiliated at a gym. My mood became dependent on whether my workouts “proved” something. My husband, coach, and friends showed up for me through it all. When I finally pulled back my mileage and accepted that workouts build fitness—not prove it—I started to enjoy training again. My injuries faded. (Thanks Coach Cane @coachcane ) The 2026 Jersey City Marathon was the first time I qualified for the elite field. I lined up in the slowest pace group with one goal: run my race, and maybe break 3. 2:58 is a long time to sit with yourself. I counted breaths, repeated the same corny mantras, and thought about the people in my corner. At the halfway point I saw Himanshu and thought about all the time he gave up so I could train—and his infinite patience. Thank you Nevin for the first pic (we met at a marathon relay 4 years ago that we won because I made an Excel tracker— rumor is that it’s still used).
