“I’m not afraid to talk about it.” Rolando was diagnosed with HIV in 2004 and now has full blown AIDS. He is a member of @32bjseiu and has worked as a doorman for over 30 years. He was treated at New York Health and Hospitals by Dr. Demetre Daskalakis @drdemetre who would later become the head of the CDC and at the time, called Rolando a miracle. Rolando said it’s not so much the money or wages that concerns him, it’s the threat of reduced benefits and health coverage which his treatment depends on. For some union members, a reduction in health benefits is a matter of life and death. Thank you Rolando for sharing your story with me.
