Things are pretty rough in the world but creating stuff? Making little arty things? Firing up the hot glue gun, the cut-up magazines, the iPad to invent something? Making stuff makes life worthwhile. Doing it with friends is a bonus. Join us in the @theseventhcornergallery space at @howlingpages from 2-4 every second Saturday for a masked hangout sesh. We had a full house for the first one of 2026! Thanks, Alain and Ashley, for having us!
Free Comic Book Day is THIS Saturday!!
In addition to all the FREE comics we're having 3 awesome comix creators tabling with us for the day. From at least 12-3 Kamilah Jones (@hard_decora ), Mac McGuire (@mac.nificent_art ), and Whitney Wasson (@soberrabbit ) will be in the shop selling the comics and wares. Come out and support these local artists!
We'll also have free posters and will be debuting our latest Howling Page, our single-page, riso-printed comics periodical.
Happy Trans Day of Visibility! It feels particularly heavy, as it has in the past, oh, ten years or so, but here we are.
It's my opinion that it's never too late to change your life, and it's been my experience that recovery makes whatever path you're traversing way easier, if not considerably weirder, too. Here's an embarrassing but sincere little sequence about what it's been like figuring things out.
On my ninth sober anniversary, and with the help of many people (friends, family, total strangers) and my dear husband, I got a literal weight off my chest! Sober people, as per usual, shared their experience, strength and hope throughout that multi-year process, and kept me afloat.
As goes with sobriety talk, my DMs are open if you need to talk about anything else. Happy to talk on "safer" platforms, too. Lemme know.
Whatever you're going through, keep going. 💫
Yea the weather is beautiful, but c'mon by for art club and do some drawrings in the back at @howlingpages . All types of media welcome. Masks required. We got the doors open and the drinks are on ice!
Whoa what's this? A new zine??? Bottled? $0??? Better come to @howlingpages for Free Comic Book Day! In addition to the tantalizing regular selection, check out free comics for all ages in the back, plus @hard_decora@mac.nificent_art and I are tabling! Then swing by @chicagocake down the street!!

Wow, this weekend at @howlingpages is gonna be so cool! First there's Godzilla vs. Chicago II via @theseventhcornergallery on Friday from 5-9, then on Saturday, our fourth Sober Drink & Draw of the year from 2-4! Free, fun, friendship! See ya there!
Our Valentines-ish Sober Drink & Draw was a hit! A hit as in we yapped and did our little projects and ate some candy. We even had a fun tattoo show and tell, related to a young artist's growing portfolio. (The portfolio was on her dad's bicep - cool!) Come draw with us this Saturday at @howlingpages , the best comic shop in Chicago.

"Wanda" is one of those rare, perfect movies. I was delighted to talk to Felicia on @seeingfacesinmovies (and co-host of the wonderful @arroyofilmclub ) about the under-appreciated, devastating story of a lost person.
I don't think it's unfair to say that many men in Hollywood spend their whole career working towards making a movie like this, whereas Barbara made one feature that she wrote, directed and starred in, and knocked it outta the park! Speaking of male filmmakers: Did Cassavetes borrow heavily from this for "A Woman Under the Influence", made just a few years later? And with "Wanda"'s lack of distribution, would anyone at the time have known? Hmmm!
While it's a difficult watch, "Wanda" is a must-see for anyone in recovery, particularly in an era of America where body autonomy (that is, the pointed desire to not be a parent) is very much under attack. We're all at risk of becoming Wanda. Check it out on the Criterion Channel and then listen to us gush about this devastating, singular movie. 📽️✨😭

G'on ahead and be the person you needed when you were younger. The Macarena was new and you were trying to learn it. Hardened and grotesque Gak coated the ceilings. Stretch Armstrong was fun as a toy but absolutely brutal if you hit somebody with it - his hard head like a small boulder. Related: On my way back home to The Fort.™️
