On my way back after a month in Central America. After the past year’s experiences (see my last post), I was feeling drained, exhausted, and needed to rejuvenate and refill my life force and wow… Watched sunrises and sunsets, swam, dolphin danced, bathed under water falls, reunited with old friends, made beautiful new connections, danced under the moon and the stars, learned new skills, gave a sunrise Thai massage next to sacred waters and majestic volcanos, witnessed magical performances by so many talented musicians and artists… Beyond grateful for this life and opportunities it has offered me to grow and find myself. Miss family and community as I am heading home, but coming back with a full heart, full of life, and feeling blessed 🤗❤️🙏 Borrowing words from a dear friend that really touched me @mjheart I don’t leave to escape anything, I leave to find the scattered pieces of my soul... I leave often to find myself, and bring mySelf home with more wholeness. I am a collector of Consciousness, a curator of creative cosmic forces, aligning the spark of the spirit with the the fire of the heart and the current of the mind that runs through this body of flesh and blood and bone... 23 was a raw year... A year of dreams taking shape, a year of seeing a vision and feeling it in your heart, in every cell of your body, knowing it will come true. A dance of passion and resilience, facing every obstacle on your way. A year of incredible joy witnessing extraordinary souls from all walks of life channeling their love and energy into creating and believing in a dream. It was a year of witnessing magic unfold, but also a year of feeling lost in it all, experiencing grief, enduring loss. A rare opportunity to know yourself better in all your glory and despair, in all its rawness. To get to know those around you for who they are. A year of questioning yourself, your core, your values, the meaning of trust. A year to sit with raw emotions and embracing it all. Been back for a few days, Zhina is safely in storage, most of the mud is cleaned up and while it seems things are back to normal, so much more to unpack from the emotional and experiential part of this experience. This year’s integration will take a lifetime! ✨😍 When 4 of us almost a year ago dreamed of this project, for me personally, a big part of the intention was bringing our community together and providing a conduit to channel our struggles, our joys, our sorrows, our passion, and our life forces into creating something that would unite us and draw us closer together. I am so humbled and profoundly thankful for the many souls who came forward, leaving their indelible mark on our creation, and turning the dream into a reality. Over a hundred incredible individuals joined hands to contribute to the project, infusing it with their love and passion day by day leading us to the moment when Zhina proudly stood on the Playa, a radiant beacon visible from Center Camp to the trash fence, extending its warm crimson glow to welcome all visitors. So many deep meaningful conversations took place there, so many tears were shed, so many releases were felt, so many friendships were forged, and so many prayers were whispered into the wind. I am beyond grateful for everyone who helped with creation of the project and to all the madly talented artists that performed at Zhina, elevating the experiences of so many. And ultimately to all that visited and brought their intentions, voices, prayers, and energy into Zhina, and for all the magical experiences Zhina witnessed 🙏❤️ And last but certainly not least, I am so so grateful to my partner @mandyyogi for her unwavering support of this dream. She graciously allowed our home to transform into a production hub, sewing factory, storage facility, and project testing ground for many months. I am grateful for you, for our 27 year marriage, for our friendship, and for your support of all the crazy dreams Ive had in the 3 decades we’ve been together. 🌟 Months of dreaming, planning, fundraising, and building and now, here we are, waiting at a parking lot lot in Reno, eager for the playa to dry out. The gentle rain on the trailer’s roof is a reminder of our journey’s twists and turns - embracing the unexpected ✨ This pause lets us reflect on the path we’ve carved. So many volunteers showed up to help, so many contributed time and donations. We just launched our fundraising campaign hitting a major milestone and a step closer in bringing Zhina to the dust. What a journey its been from last October when 4 friends got together and dreamed a dream, to now with a team of 21 people and growing, working day and night with full designs, prototype, and execution plan in place for the next 114 days until we leave for the desert! Insalely more complicated, more expensive, and more work than I ever expected but also a source of energy line none that I have ever experienced before. It is a dear topic to our hearts, and it seems so many feel the same. Every single time we really needed help or hit a wall, someone magically showed up with a solution. And this happened again and again and again… The playa has definitely been providing for Zhina and our team 🔥 Exhausted yet feeling full of energy to get to the next milestone and feeling so much gratitude for my communities and all of you out there supporting us in so many ways, for sending us love and energy, for reaching a hand every time we needed something. I am grateful for the amazing team that has come together believing in Zhina and each bringing their passion and life force co-creating her. Very excited to announce Zhina art project for Burning Man 2023 @zhinaartproject , an art installation to honor the women of Iran and the freedom movement they are leading. Zhina was the Kurdish name of Zhina Amini that was killed by the morality police in Iran last September for exposing her hair in public. Her death sparked one of the most unique and powerful freedom movements in history led by women. The installation invites visitors to go on a journey of discovery in its interconnected pathways, eventually converging into an intimate core, a unified space to reflect, contemplate and share. The fabrics will hold stories, messages and offerings from the community. Ultimately the goal is to get the visitors to truly realize the story they are witnessing and interacting with is their story in a different setting, a converged reality, a blending of an image from the movement with a reflection of self. Zhina is to honor anyone that has ever experienced oppression and stood up with courage to defend their rights. Our small team of Iranian artists, architects, designers, burners, see this project as a platform to give our community a way of contributing in however small ways to the movement.
