Even small acts of kindness can make a difference for snow leopards on a global scale. Your generous gift today will help protect snow leopards like the one above from the illegal wildlife trade by providing rangers with the necessary resources. Through the end of Giving Tuesday, all gifts will be doubled by a group of committed conservation partners. Will you give the gift of a safer world for snow leopards? Give today at the link in our profile. Photo: @sascha.fonseca

Our researchers recently discovered five healthy cubs in two separate den sites in Mongolia’s Tost Mountains. They safely approached the den when the mothers were hunting to count and weigh the cubs, determine their sex, collect saliva swabs for DNA analysis, and insert a tiny microchip under their skin so that we can identify them in the future. The entire process takes only a few minutes, and our researchers strive to cause as little disturbance as possible. They also monitor the dens afterward to ensure the females return and continue using them. These two den visits are only the 6th and 7th since we launched our long-term study in 2008, and the only den visits scientists have ever documented worldwide. Data from these rare encounters is vital for understanding snow leopard ecology and making informed conservation decisions to secure their future. Read the complete account on our blog (link in bio). @snowleopard.mongolia

Have you seen the snow leopard footage from Planet Earth III’s Extremes episode yet? Our team in Mongolia collaborated with the BBC Studios Natural History to help make this footage possible. And the best part? We know this cat! This is Presnel - who we’ve seen on camera since she was born in 2014. We hope you enjoy the spectacular glimpse into the world of a snow leopard mother and her cubs. Thank you to BBCA/BBC Studios. @bbcearth Read more about Presnel and the filming conditions in Mongolia at the link in our bio! #snowleopards #snowleopard #cubs #bbc #planetearth #planetearth3 #wildlife #mongolia #wildlifephotography #bbcstudios #bbca

A moment from the field, collaring F18 (18th female snow leopard to the @snowleopardtrust & @snowleopard.mongolia ecological study). Sometimes people question collaring as it can seem invasive, of course it would be ideal to never have to engage with a wild population at all’s but collaring can provide extremely valuable data regarding the ecology of species that are hard to to understand - such as secretive carnivores. It can help us understand how they use their space, how they disperse, how they hunt, what they eat, and how they organise themselves and compete. All critical for understanding how to best protect them and their habitats. It also helps inform us how to best support communities that live alongside them to reduce potential conflict. #fieldwork #snowleopard #biologist #expedition

Today, the world celebrates Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday, a century of life that has inspired generations to care about the natural world. Executive Director Dr. Charu Mishra is one of the many people across the planet who have been inspired by Sir David's extraordinary life. "Most people grew up watching Sir David Attenborough. I didn’t... Growing up in India, televisions were scarce and wildlife documentaries even scarcer. My introduction to Sir David came through one of his books, The Living Planet, which I read and reread as a child. It opened up a world I had never imagined. But the result was the same: a lasting curiosity about the natural world. Long before conservation became a widely discussed subject, Sir David was helping people care about nature, not by lecturing them, but by introducing them to its wonders, with joy and respect." Read Charu's full account of his meeting with Sir David and the impact he has had on all of our lives, and the natural world, at the link in our bio.

Happy Earth Day! Snow Leopard Trust has partnered with Indigenous Peoples and local communities across Asia's high mountains for over 40 years. Our conservation work to protect the iconic snow leopard would be impossible without the collective knowledge and experience of the communities that have lived here and cared for the land for countless generations. We are all stewards of the Earth, and each of us can take actions to protect the lands where we live, on Earth Day and beyond!
