This week, May 10–16, we recognize National Police Week, established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy as Peace Officers Memorial Day. It is a time for our nation to honor all who serve in law enforcement, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, while also remembering and supporting the families and survivors who carry that loss every day. We especially want to thank our deputies for everything they do and the sacrifices they make each and every day. Your commitment to our agency and the people of Snohomish County is deeply respected by the community we serve. We are eternally grateful for your courage, dedication, and willingness to risk your lives to keep our community safe. Thank you for your service and continued commitment. Throughout the week, many of our precinct commanders showed their appreciation by hosting lunches for their staff in recognition of their hard work and dedication.

On Tuesday, deputies responded to assist Fire personnel with a large fire along the railroad tracks on Airport Way just outside of Snohomish. Deputies immediately deployed drones in the area and located a potential involved subject. The subject was transported to the hospital for evaluation. The investigation to determine the cause of the fire is being led by the Snohomish County Fire Marshal's Office.

Outstanding teamwork and strong interagency cooperation led to the successful arrest of a suspect in Lynnwood on charges of Robbery 2nd Degree DV and Residential Burglary DV after he fled into a heavily wooded area late at night. When a neighboring agency requested assistance, Deputy Byrd and K9 Dico responded to assist @lynnwoodwapolice officers in locating the suspect, who had fled on foot and was believed to possibly be armed. Despite difficult terrain, dense vegetation, swampy conditions, and a large search area, K9 Dico successfully tracked the suspect for nearly two miles through apartment complexes, wooded trails, and wetlands. During the search, deputies recovered evidence connected to the suspect and continued tracking until Dico located him hiding in thick bushes near a residence, where he was safely contacted by deputies. With assistance from K9 Dico, the suspect was safely taken into custody, and a firearm was recovered from his backpack. This incident highlights the value of regional partnerships, advanced K9 training, and the dedication of law enforcement professionals working together to keep our communities safe!

You might think the real scam is the horrible corny jokes, but unfortunately it’s the people pretending to work for the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office. Scammers are calling community members using the real names of our Deputies, Sergeants, Lieutenants, and Captains, claiming you missed jury duty or have a warrant that can magically disappear if you pay them with gift cards or wire transfers. First of all, Sgt. Boyer would never tell jokes that bad, and second, no law enforcement agency will ever call you demanding money or asking you to meet up to make payment. If you get one of these calls, hang up immediately and don’t give out any personal or financial information.

At 4:01 p.m., Monday, east county deputies responded to Sportsman’s Park in Sultan for a reported child drowning. They arrived first on scene and rescued two 13-year-old boys from the river. Rivers are extremely dangerous, especially where two rivers meet. Strong, unpredictable currents and sudden drop-offs can quickly overwhelm even the most experienced swimmers. Warm weather does not mean warm water. Rivers, lakes, and the ocean can remain dangerously cold. Cold water can trigger shock, causing gasping, panic, and rapid exhaustion, even for strong swimmers. Stay safe: -Watch children closely at all times -Wear a properly fitted life jacket -Know the water conditions before you go -Call 911 immediately in an emergency

We found this sweet boy wandering around lost on Saturday with no collar. He was very friendly and seemed well cared for, so we’re hoping he’s already been reunited with his family! Deputy Scheer brought him to the Everett Animal Shelter to help him get back home safely. A big thank you to the deputies who helped safely wrangle him in. It is very much appreciated! If he hasn’t been claimed yet and you recognize him, please contact the shelter directly. Let’s help make sure this good boy finds his way home!

Early this morning, South County deputies responded to what might be their most neigh-borly disturbance yet. A homeowner woke up in the middle of the night to a suspicious rustling sound, only to lock eyes with a horse standing in his yard. Sgt. Beard was first to arrive on scene and, with the help of the homeowner and deputies, was able to escort Jake the horse back home. No breaking and entering charges, but he is currently being held on stable conditions.
