To stage an exhibition of cutlery is to imagine a room full of mouths anticipating contact — lips closing over a rim, teeth grazing metal, the instinctive choreography between wrist and jaw. During Melbourne Design Week, Table Manners convenes Belle Thierry, Hamish Munro, Hamish Donaldson, Julian Leigh May, Studio Kyss, Ryan Mueller, Sebastião Lobo, Soie Lait, Snelling Studio, Studio Yeodong Yun and Tai Snaith—each producing a one-off set distilled through the guiding principles of their own practice. Shown alongside selections from the Kraftsman collection. We are delighted to be exhibiting in Table Manners as part of Melbourne Design Week. Snelling Studio presents Ut serviamus, a set of five serving instruments shaped through proportion, alignment, and offering. The works draw on the etiquette of shared dining, where serving precedes possession and action is directed toward others. Lathe-turned timber paired with mirrored stainless steel registers these exchanges as spatial and relational gestures between hands. Each designer was commissioned to produce a singular set of cutlery distilled by the guiding principles of their practice, shown alongside historical and contemporary works from the Kraftsman collection. Opening 14 May at Florian Home as part of Melbourne Design Week. Aotearoa Art Fair, Last Day! Wall House Party, Booth 38, Level 1 Rebecca Snelling View Maud Keeper, 2026 Hand-turned oiled black walnut, formed mirrored stainless steel 143.5 × 36.5 × 36.5 cm View Sedilia Table Lamp, 2026 Hand-turned oiled black walnut, formed mirrored stainless steel 48 × 38 cm View Oriel Candle Holder, 2026 Hand-turned oiled black walnut, mirrored stainless steel 35 × 7 x 7cm They are messages not in words, but in shapes and what I see. View explores ideas of levitation through observation of the horizon and the vertical points that interrupt it, whether built or natural. They punctuate this horizon, drawing the eye upward and establishing elevation and stillness. Form, silhouette, mirrored stainless steel, and the grain of hand-turned timber are sensitively assembled to examine and articulate these perceptions. This body of work is steeped in studio research, emerging through the process of reduction and deep material exploration into refined form and silhouette. Rebecca Snelling is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Tāmaki Makaurau whose practice spans sculpture, drawing, and material-led object work. Anchored in sustained material research, her work engages conceptual design and formal concerns through processes of making and material enquiry. Lygia Clark’s practice continues to inform our thinking, particularly her treatment of material as something active, responsive, and held in the hand. Her folded steel works resist fixity, inviting movement, touch, and exchange, shifting the relationship between object and body. Images courtesy Associação Cultural O Mundo de Lygia Clark
