Way back in the early sixties I attended Columbia University social work school which was housed in the Carnegie Mansion pictured here. Every day I climbed these beautiful stairs. Our classes were held in paneled rooms with marbled fire places. In the grassy area behind Jackie Kennedy brought her young children to play. Today it’s the Cooper Hewitt museum but restored enough that I could put myself back in class sitting around heavy wooden tables trying to learn how best to help those struggling to survive difficult times. The social work school is now in a new modern building but I will be forever grateful to have learned in such a historic and beautiful setting.

On my walk today I happened to check out an unfamiliar coffee shop. I explained to the lady at the counter that I wasn’t buying today but the sweets looked fabulous and I’ll definitely be back when the customer who was there buying something insisted on treating me. There is kindness in this world and sweetness too the cupcake was delicious
Granddaughter Ellie with her two grandmothers Both graduates of the University of Wisconsin in the same year who didn’t know one another until our children met and married.
A lovely night seeing Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time. Fascinating. And special thanks to Marjorie Steinberg for a yummy picnic.
Spent a lovely afternoon enjoying The Secret Garden. Tears flowed during the duet about Lost Love. Although different from the book still a touching story about the glory and importance of connection.
