90eeze is an improvisor’s collaborative, described by The Midbrow as “a mixture of Flying Luttenbachers, John Zorn, Ascension-era John Coltrane influences, and maybe a little bit of Black MIDI. Consisting of guitar, drums/percussion, saxophone/flute, bass, and MIDI flute/programming, it was like nothing was off the table with this band.” The lineup for this performance features Kyle Balles (drums, percussion), Quinn Collins (bass guitar), Connor Eccles (guitar), Dan Kochersberger (tenor sax, other horns), and Kyle Press (alto sax, flute, electronics).
23 Shedu is a project featuring Scott Verrastro, Will Helmke and Damian Languell. A weird and psychedelic gathering of bowed percussion and gongs, Buchla easel and homemade electronics.
TONIGHT AT THE BOK AUDITORIUM! Philadelphia quintet Henbane will be live scoring feminist pioneer Susan Kleckner’s Desert Piece. This is a special, singular event not to be missed. Bill Kaizen will introduce the films and the artist at 7, followed by the short Pierre Film. All ages!

TOMORROW IN WEST PHILLY! Fire Museum and Clavius Productions present a modern acid folk double bill featuring Phipps Pt (on Negativland’s label Seeland!) and Henbane (mem. of Kohoutek/Deadeyes/Bitter Wish/Strawberry Hands). Phipps Pt is the duo of Canadian Lovage Sharrock and Jon Leidecker aka Wobbly, a project where Vashti Bunyan/Linda Perhacs hushed delicate vocals are fleshed out with unpredictable electronic sound collages. All ages, 8pm sharp!
Phipps Pt. is the sound project of Canadian conduit, Lovage Sharrock. What began as a series of one-off performances pairing her hypnotic fingerpicked guitar patterns and fragile vocals with a rotating roster of impressive collaborators, has evolved with the regular accompaniment of Jon Leidecker (Wobbly / Negativland / Thurston Moore Group) live processing the moment.Each conjured performance is raw, distinct and unrepeatable. In their live act, Sharrock’s vocals vacillate between delicate, seductive, humorous and disturbed, offering moments of profound beauty and catharsis within joy and deep discomfort. Together, they continue to push the boundaries of what it means to connect through music, creating spaces where composition and experimental sound converge. They are touring behind their sophomore album, Songs We No Longer Sing.

Members of Henbane are putting on a daytime fundraiser festival for one of our favorite spots, the @duboisrobesonpeoplescenter at 4515 Baltimore, a volunteer-run community space and center for radical political education. Come see Henbane’s own Eva Sheppard, other members playing in Kohoutek, along with performances by @upholsteredmusic , @strawberry_hands , @jewel_eye , Apologist, CornerBooth, and members of @songpeople_ in CHANNEL MARKER!
Henbane (members of Kohoutek/The Deadeyes/Bitter Wish) formed in May 2023 with the concept of using the 60s/70s UK folk-rock revival acts (Fairport, Pentangle, Steeleye Span) as a jumping-off point to exploring vocal-driven traditional folk ballads and originals ranging from the close and quiet to the big and loud. Philly quartet Heaven Man draws inspiration from the revolutionary sounds of ‘60s psych rock, early garage, and Krautrock: psychedelic, melodic, and vocal.

At one of the best DIY spots in the city, God’s Auto Body, a local triple bill featuring Bitter Wish (ex-Bardo Pond, members of Kohoutek/Double Wig/Henbane/Strawberry Hands) with new bands Stiff Curls (Heavenly Bodies/Full Size/Kensington Stranglers/Spacin’) and Mister Customer (Gondola/Flash Hits/Ancient Creature). IMHO, Philly royalty! $10-15, doors at 7, starts at 7:45, over at 10, all ages, BYOB but we’ll have both nice and shitty beers on hand. And Bitter Wish has two new jams for y’all!
Henbane was formed in the summer of 2023 by Kohoutek percussionist Scott Verrastro and bassist Griffin Vernor Drutchas based on the framework of 1968-1970 Fairport Convention, covering a repertoire of traditional British Isles folk ballads, lyrical gems from '60s and '70s songwriters, and original compositions.
