Today is International Nurses Day 💙
We celebrate our students and graduated nurses, and their vital contributions to the health and well-being of our communities.
To mark the day, we’re sharing the story of three generations of SM TAFE nursing students – Alyssa, her mum Rebecca and her grandma Barb.
Alyssa is following in their footsteps, currently completing a Diploma in Nursing with the goal of becoming a paediatric nurse. Rebecca and Barb also studied nursing at SM TAFE, and both went on to careers in the mental health field.
From following a childhood dream to building a career in mental health, their journey highlights the lasting impact of nursing across generations.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest we forget 🌺
Youth Week WA kicks off today! South Metropolitan TAFE is proud to support this initiative, which is the largest annual celebration of young people aged 10 to 25 years in Western Australia.
To determine the theme for Youth Week 2026, a statewide design competition was held, which was open to the public.
Congratulations to our own South Metropolitan TAFE student Jesryl, who was the overall winner of this competition! Jesryl’s theme ‘Strength in our Stories’ sets the tone for Youth Week WA, highlighting the power of young people’s diverse backgrounds and experiences.
“When I found out I won the competition, I was ecstatic because it felt amazing to contribute to something that interests me and supports young people. The diversity of my TAFE peers’ upbringing, experiences and values inspired the creation of the theme. Personally, for me, it means that my experiences in life makes me uniquely me.”
During Youth Week, join in the celebrations at free events near you.
